In those days you could walk around reasonably freely and we found ourselves walking down the tunnel beneath where CAP met the main stadium. Who should be walking down towards us but Mervyn Davies. As a group of slightly excitable young 15 year olds we said hello to him as he was coming towards us. He totally ignored us. It was as if we were not there and we were all a bit taken aback by his rudeness. Then of course during the game he collapsed, right in front of where we were standing and the rest is history. It dawned on us that whatever happened on the pitch was starting to affect him well before the game. It was a sad day.

Some who hardly speak any English will reel off names like Geoff Wheel and Allan Martin. So knowledgable. They even have evenings where old Wales games are watched and the likes of Fenwick and his kicking is fawned over

We kicked arse then Keith Many even took up the game because of our elan at the game Worst individual in welsh sport I came across was Wilf Wooller, a total racist craphouse whose arrogance was off the scale . Great at cricket and rugby though Not one to invite over for a a braii

Mervyn and his Wife were staying in same hotel on holidays one year as my parents think it might have been Malta. Dad told me that Merv loved a good slurp.

Now that does surprise me. Spain is not a country that you would traditionally think of as rugby loving . Basque country to a certain extent I could understand , yes ; as it has a very close proximity to Southern French clubs like Pau ,Tarbes , Beziers , Bagneres , Narbonne .
