I must admit in the last couple of weeks when the Mrs has watching some old George Gently episodes I have been sat there looking at some of his suits and overcoats and thinking, hmmm, loving that herringbone blue tweed overcoat. Is it an age thing? |

I came on here a couple of weeks ago asking for pointers to legit Premier League football data to help the future son-in-law get data for his Masters in computer science. He was showing it to me and as he is someone who comes from a background with no interest in sport, he was amazed at how obvious were my predictions about longevity of management + income and investment over the period of 20+ years leads to sustained success. We just cannot pull out of the rinse and repeat of hire and fire/lose managers and run on a shoestring budget. |

This is not just a piece of insightful journalism, it is a mirror which needs to be held up in front of Rueben, Christian and Lee Hoos, a mirror into which they should be made to stare at again and again in the coming days until their eyes actually open to see their reality of where we are and this constant cycle of false dawns, a little promise and then the usual slump leading to change. I can forgive some of the things that manifest each year which the current owners have to grapple with as a consequence of both the total mismanagement of the club during the early Fernandes Premier League drive years, together with the reality that we are one of multiple professional football clubs in London, with limited real estate landlocked by residential streets and blocks of flats with no room for meaningful expansion, with the Westfield and UCL neighbours pricing us out of any land potential in the immediate area. I can accept that once you have sponsored every stand, and sold the naming rites for each of the urinals in the stadium to some distant offshoot business of Rueben's back in Malaysia that we still don't have much money to make progress. What I cannot accept is that the owners of this football club have entrusted the running of the football club to someone who cannot have been out of university for more than four years. How do you bring in an auditor and not spot the conflict of interest when they turn around and say "I know what you need.... you need me". How do they allow a change in communications towards a Ministry of Disinformation and paranoia to the extent that any communication with the playing staff is stage managed and pre-recorded leading to distrust building within the fanbase. Or is this quite simply a reality based on not having a pot to pee in and therefore the only game in town is to try and con a half decent managerial prospect to the club on the promise of support and cake tomorrow, only to find that they quickly become disenfranchised with the "project" when the players they are given to coach are either not good enough, or worse, would be good enough if they were not always injured. The worst point about this excellent article is the reminder about the tendency for 1 good appointment being swiftly followed by 3 bad ones and we cannot afford this risk at the moment. Therefore at this time I fear it is League One here we come! |

"We were moving forward under Marti." I'm not sure we have moved on yet. We could finish 15th - 18th come Saturday lunchtime with no more points than last year. Is that Marti's fault, probably not, but this season has been ridiculous in terms of starting the season in relegation form, then people thinking we were heading for the playoffs but as usual over the last 10years we settle back down around 16th. The questions we want answered we will never be told the full picture because each side will think the other is to blame. Was it a demand on Marti to play the "play out from the back" from De Souza and CEO and ....... actually I am just regurgitating what WLS Pod were discussing earlier today. Just pizzed off totally that we are back at the bottom of the mountain again and it is not even May yet. |

Thank the Lord that a large BBQ at my brother's, where he also wanted me to sample his latest single pot still Irish Whiskey, meant I was out for the count long before that report was published. It was bad enough living through that 4-0 trashing (I was outside the stadium when I heard the 5th go in) but had I read that report last night I would have been awake until 3am worrying about next season already. 'Something is rotten in the State of Denmark' (and it's not just Madsen). |

Only on Loft For Words could you be discussing the potential demise of Marti and 5mins later the Jack Hargreaves brigade are debating the benefits of no dig growing and keeping bees. We have a sizeable allotment behind our house and it is great to see the same people year in year out marching down the alley with their bags and barrows full of produce. Must be a nice sense of achievement to sit down at the dinner table and eat your own grown grub. |

In the words of Cptn. Blackadder āsomething smells fishy here and Iām not talking about the contents of Baldrickās apple crumbleā. I think Dave Mcās delivery style when I have seen him on pods with Kev Gallen has come across as monotone and disinterested any time I listen to him, that might not be fair. However the editing and production of that interview seems like neither wanted to be there as if it had been set up by other parties and they both had to sit through it. Not looking for conspiracy theories but the timing and tone of that interview just feels all meh! |

 | Forum Thread | Reliable Football Data Online Question at 19:00 17 Apr 2025
Evening all, future son-in-law needs to do a data analysis project for his final module of his computer science degree. He is going to look at certain trends of success tenure of managers during premier league years and transfer budgets v revenue etc etc. Does anyone know of any websites that would be reputable that produce good genuine football data rather than the other clickbait nonsense out there please Thanks |

Nothing to add of note to this thread other than to share that I had the pleasure of standing in the Hammersmith End at Rupertsville to watch Eze score his lovely finish and then his assist a few mins later. Standing there only half stifling my smug grin whilst my mates were, first spitting venom at Ebes as he celebrated in front of the Hammersmith end and put his finger to his lips and then knelt to give thanks and glory to the almighty- and then by the end of the game they were begrudgingly acknowledging what a great player he was. It was nice to also be attending an FA Cup game beyond the 3rd Round too š |

100% nail on the head Numpty. The primary focus is to assess any swing in the general western attitudes to masculinity, and whether that is leading to more openness in discussing and where necessary reaching out for help with mental health. It is also assessing, as part of that wider study, whether knowing someone who has sort help will influence your own chances of doing the same. Lorna spoke to me about the reasons for her pursuing this topic again on Weds night and "why I am undertaking this survey dad" I am paraphrasing her now but the numbers of men in the UK who are taking their own lives due to mental health problems is now being referred to as "a silent epidemic" and men are nearly 3 times as likely to take their own lives than women. Lorna says that the thought of so many thousands (and it is thousands) who have gone through what she has experienced is so upsetting and that more needs to be done to understand the root causes of the massive increase in male suicide. So a massive thank you to everyone on Loft For Words who have taken the time to complete the survey, as we suspect the fast ramp up of responses was within the first 24hrs of my sharing the request on here. |

A big thank you to all who have completed the survey in the last 24hrs . Lorna says that by 5pm tonight there has already been around 110 responses - I suspect most of them from all the replies on here as I have not really shared it further than a couple of friends and family. I will sit down with Lorna later and also share with her so many of the encouraging comments you have posted in response to the ask. What a great bunch of folks we are blessed with on here!!! |
