 | News Comment | Southampton Set To Appoint New Manager Ahead of Birmingham Game at 18:52:37
It'll be Tonda. An experienced manager would see that SR are using Saints to fund other teams like Goztepe, who we have bought players for and then let them go to them for nothing They'd also request spending in January. Therefore SR will simply keep the carousel going and hope to get by. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Millwall The Verdict at 20:03:06
BryanK, so why have we looked quicker with THB but no Stephens in other games? I don't think Stephens has the vision to pass forward and with him in the team, others are forced to play out of position to cover for him. He's also not good enough on the ball. However I don't think any defence will consistently keep clean sheets with Bazunu behind them. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Millwall The Verdict at 18:57:09
So we go from Leicester, a quick attacking set up, to Millwall who play the same way this year, and take Quashie out (who was brought in for his pace) only to drop Stephens in again. 3 -0 to 2 - 3. When will we learn? Also another case of Bazunu not being able to cope with the ball going across him, 1st and 3rd goals. Liability. The sooner we stop having to make changes for every game, for no reason, and get rid of those two (Bazunu and Jack) the better. |
 | News Comment | Daily Echo 5 Point Plan For Sports Republic To Restore The Fan Faith at 14:06:18
SaintNick, You say Bazunu was the goalkeeper in the last season we went up, and when we went 20 odd games unbeaten, but cast your mind back. That was a settled back line, and we STILL shipped goals for fun, we just scored plenty. That is not the case now, the defence are at 6's and 7's and we have problems scoring. Therefore having a less than average keeper, who can't save a ball going across him, and doesn't catch the ball, is a huge risk. At the basics I rate McCarthy higher than Bazunu, and thats saying something !!! For me: 1) Get Rodgers in 2) Sign a decent keeper (assuming Ramsdale is leaving) 3) Sign a capable Stewart alternative (Downs is useless) 4) Strip Stephens of the Captaincy and give it to Romeu 5) Have 1 number 1 at board level, not a head of a,b and c, that obviously don't talk. |
 | News Comment | Time For Sport Republic To Rip Up The Manager Blueprint And Appoint Experience at 00:16:08
Next manager will be a nobody from Germany or Tonda Eckert. SR will not go for experience, they won't pay for it. We had the chance before Still, perfect opportunity after 12 point PL season, but no we get a possibility manager. When they sacked Ralf, who do we get? A wanna be manager. They're simply taking their player recruitment into managerial recruitment, start cheap with possibility and hope it works out. Issue is we're not getting the Pochettino, we're getting the Ali Dia or Damion Downs. |
 | News Comment | Southampton Sack Will Still at 22:10:54
EvertonSaint, funny you reference Russell Martin, as lot s of Rumours about him coming back. With SR nothing would surprise me but that would be shocking. Almost as shocking as their constant seeing that we don't score goals, yet constantly failing to bring an experienced striker in, or that we ship goals yet not getting and experienced, quality CB. Before you say they re-signed Stephens, that was the worst decision ever! |
 | News Comment | Is Silence From St Mary's A Good Or Bad Sign For Will Still at 23:21:04
Damion Down purchase when we had discussed Semenyo, now tearing up the Prem with Bournemouth and Stephens 3 year deal show it's not just Stll and other managers desperation for odd selection that is the problem. Whoever is doing the purchasing needs firing. Semenyo 8m to Bournemouth, Down £10m to us... Just saying. |
 | News Comment | A Big Decision Week For For Southampton FC at 11:58:19
It didn't surprise me at all that our game went down hill massively when "Captain Jack" came on. The guy is a liability. Apart from the Bristol City result, our defence looked stable and "ok" as soon as we got rid of Bazunu and Stephens from it. Out issue was going forward. That was until Still brought Stephens back into the fray. It can't be a manager thing that all managers since Ralf, have had the same issues. A favouritism and need for certain players to be in the team, the same issue scoring goals. The problem as much as the manager I think comes from further up, why was Stephens given another 3 year deal when most Supporters were breathing a sigh of relief when his contract ran out. Why when Ramsdale went did we not get in another "half decent" keeper. Why did we go for Damion Down, when we were speaking to people like Semenyo not at Bournemouth ? |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Blackburn Rovers The Verdict at 11:28:44
Hahaha I've seen posts calling McCarthy the worst professional goalkeeper yet he's 1000% better than Bazunu so what does that say? Another game where we seem "ok" then the subs come and it all falls apart. I think it's no surprise that "captain Jack" comes on and we lose a goal or 2. He's shocking as a defender and even more shocking as a midfielder. WS has caught the Saints curse of always taking off our best performers just when we need them most. We saw this with Hassenhuttl, then Jones, Juric, and now Still. Strange that all our Managers do it, or is this a SR thing as it didn't happen before they came in... |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Middlesbrough The Verdict at 23:11:14
Three things shown: 1) Bazunu and Stephens should be nowhere near the team. THB possibly not either. 2) we need to play the same forwards for more than one game at a time, so that they can become AA partnership. 3) Jander and Charles are a good pair, we should be building everything around that. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Middlesbrough The Preview at 12:09:40
Saints best defence is one without Bazunu, Stephens or THB in it as the display at Liverpool showed. Yes McCarthy gave away a goal but how many games has he played? Bazunu messed up regularly and he's the number 1. As for up top it's difficult and all our strikers are out of form. However with Fellows and Wee man out wide, surely we have to play Stewart for his presence, especially with Downs having issues. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Liverpool The Verdict at 19:27:28
No Stephens and No Bazunu, and we look more competent at the back. But for a single midfield lapse that led to the second goal and McCarthy's error, which tbh when you're not playing regularly you're prone to, we were in the game. Another talking point was what £100m can get you. We have Scienza, who headed wide but shouldn't have needed to with Armstrong 1 on 1 with the keeper. At the other end Isak 1 on 1 with McCarthy gives him no chance. |
 | News Comment | Will Still Can Now Wing It In Formation Change at 23:09:03
Nick, so you're saying Still didn't have the personnel to play a back 3, or back 4, and that to play a back 3 you need communication and organisation. Remind me what qualities Jack Stephens got his 3 year extension for? It was supposed to be communication and organisation, this is why he's captain. The issue we now have is that if we play a back 4, one of the centre backs is still going to be Stephens, so still no organisation or communication. We needed to sign a Ben Mee or Lindleoff to organise us and for someone vocal to take the armbands, but we still lack that player. My only hope for Saints is that we can play Keegan ball and score more than we let in, and we're still likely to let them in. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Watford The Verdict at 12:19:04
Still a bunch of liabilities at the back. After looking calmer v Norwich we once again play Stephens and it all goes to waste. Noone communicates on our back line, we need someone who does/can, and the give them the arm band. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Watford The Preview at 09:22:35
Colburn. There's no way Stephens should be anywhere near the starting line up. For someone who was given a new contract based on being a leader, there's more chance of communication and organisation coming from a dead duck that is the problem. |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Norwich City The Carabao Cup Verdict at 22:29:01
Anyone asking why our defence looked better. Just look at the players not playing. Goalkeeper and Centre back. Bazunu is great with his feet bat he does not anticipate shots so he's beaten when he has to move. The you have Jack Stephens who was extended for his organisation and communication skills, but who is silent as captain and couldn't organise the proverbial Brewery drinks. More communication in that second half than in the 3 games Stephens has played in. Downes look like the captain Stephens cannot be. |
