Wycombe forward Kone becomes QPR’s statement summer addition - Signing
at 19:01 13 Aug 2025

Question for Clive. Now that we have got this lad through the door, had this occurred before you did your preview, where would you have put the mighty R’s this season?

Easy to explain. Last January Wycombe were very much in the hunt for the second promotion place and keeping Kone was a risk they would have thought worth taking as his goals could very much have helped them to promotion with the added benefits of much higher income from TV and gate receipts. The fact is now he is in the last year of his contract, like Kelman so they need to cash in now to avoid walking away, or receiving a much lower compensation payment as he is under 24 (like Poku who could us a fraction of his worth compared to if he was still contracted to Posh). Kelman obviously made it clear that he wasn’t going to sign a new contract so getting £3million for someone who cost the club £250k was great business for the club especially in these days of FFP, whereby the club can put all that money against FFP and if we sign Kone for a similar amount and assuming it’s a five year contract the annual amortised cost to the club is £600K on a £3million purchase price. And that gives us time to hopefully develop him to a level where we can get a much larger fee in the future.

Who did you nearly support…?
at 10:35 11 Aug 2025

Referring to the OP, can beat him with regards to Alan Devonshire. He lived next door to my Nan and Aunt in Perivale, Welland Gardens. Remember me and my brother both getting signed West Ham footballs from him one Xmas. Their 1980 FA Cup winning team. No intention of keeping them for keeps sake. Went straight onto the grass and within months were worn out. We were both third generation Rangers and nothing was to sway us. Alan himself was a Rangers supporter as a kid and like many other very talented players who made it big was rejected by Rangers as a 14 year old, although to be fair to the club at the time we were producing some outstanding homegrown talent.

But as for ever having the thought of supporting another club? Nah. Never. And am i envious of supporters of the big clubs, laden with silverware and shiny new grounds and multi billion pound squads? Nope. Given me my R’s any day of the week. Our infrequent successes are that more special, or players whether good or bad are ours, the kit is the best in the league. Only one other team plays in something similar but manage to fûck that up year after year. Loftus Road is beautiful. A proper football ground. And the legends of the club, never to be forgotten.

QPR - Prediction for finishing position 2025/2026 Season
at 18:45 4 Aug 2025

I certainly feel we have a better and more balanced squad than last season. Lacarche I don’t think is the disaster waiting to happen at left back and I suspect that Harvey Vale could be a more than reliable back up. In defence Morrison continues to impress and Mbengue will provide back up both in CD and at right back. If JCS could ever get himself fit then we have a very decent defence. Midfield I actually think we have our strongest collection of players for many a season, Field, Varane, Madsen (improving very quickly), Vale, Chair, Poku, Dembele, Smyth, Sutton, Morgan is quite a source of talent. Up front, Burrell, I’m sure we are all waiting to see if he is another Washington or that fabled 20 goal striker, (10 would do me), Frey, I like Frey. Hopefully more fit than injured and Kholli, who I hope can develop further from last season. But with the midfield I feel that the majority of goals this season will come from there and I wouldn’t be surprised to see both Chair and Poku hit double figures. The only question mark for me is the coach. Never heard of Stephán before so I hope that he will get the side playing some great one touch flowing football. If so then it is a top ten finish for me.

The new kit
at 08:57 1 Aug 2025

For those of us of a certain age, growing up in the 70’s, the chequerboard and the stick men have a real meaning that QPR were different to any other club. Love that the chequerboard design is coming back to the programmes this season and I hope they retain it infinitum as it is part of our heritage. Love the new shirt, maybe missed a trick with a blue shoulder and hopped sleeves to complete the 76’ look but I might even be tempted for the first time in a decade to buy one. And when you think back to the shît that Nike produced for us it just shows that the smaller kit produces are the best. (Now watch out for diagonal hoops for next season!😂)

Rumarn Burrell

Like the look of this lad. And even though Kelman took the headlines in League One last season his stats were 0.43 goals per match in a team that reached the play offs. And this was his third season in League One. Burrell averaged 0.36 goals per match in his first season and from the video montage looked like he was up there for assists as well. Seemed quite comfortable with both feet and when in a crossing position certainly had the mystical ability to look up to see what options he has before crossing. Speed is obviously another factor he has, which lets all be honest Kelman doesn’t. And finally if Plymouth were in for this lad, and let’s face it they have a pretty decent record of picking up decent forwards from the lower leagues. I like this signing and not particularly bothered about losing Kelman especially given that we are reportedly getting £3.5million, which when getting him for £250k ain’t bad.

Given that they have been good with Kelman and previous to his permanent move Smyth, Orient seems like a great fit. Hopefully they can add similar features to his game as they obviously did with Kelman. And as far as I’m concerned dropping down one division only is where our youngsters should be if they are good enough to eventually get into our first team.

Given that the club I suspect doesn’t receive millions from the likes of Copybet and the previous incarnates of main shirt sponsors I often wonder whether the club would be better to approach Guinness and say that they would be happy to carry the Guinness name as short sponsor for free as I suspect every man and dog on this board would be vying to be first in the queue to buy the shirts which would surely see record numbers of shirt sales. And if this also extended to selling Guinness in the ground then I suspect that everyone would win. I haven’t bought a shirt probably since the ‘Royal Panda’ one and have no intention of buying one this season, but if I was able to buy a new shirt with Guinness emblazoned on it then I would.

The July Eze Thread
at 19:28 1 Jul 2025

Been in town this afternoon Mike, meeting friends and having a few sherbets. Retired and enjoying life. Back down to the south coast tomorrow where I’ve bought my retirement house. Living the life. July can throw whatever heat it wants at me. I’m enjoying it. Just hope Mr Eze makes the move that catapults him to the highest echelons of footballing stardom that he deserves. Once a Ranger always a Ranger Ebs. And he knows it.

According to Kieren Maguire
at 11:26 29 Jun 2025

The Hemmings family that owns Preston is worth in excess of £1billion and the Berylson family that owns Millwall are mere paupers with a family of around £175million. I’d like to think that we are now much better run than under the made days of Tony Fernandes although at the time we were all pleased with the mass of signings we were making. Reuben seems to have steadied the ship massively and like him or not Nourry seems to have started to get a handle on things. Shaking up the academy has been a massive plus getting rid of a real load of deadwood who would be lucky to make a career in the National Leagues. Players that we all thought would be offski if weren’t sold beforehand like Chair and Dunne seem to be more than happy to extend their stays and we are starting to attract some real young talent that I suspect other clubs would have been more than happy to sign in the likes of Vale and Poku. We haven’t lost any players that we would really miss from last season and the younger players such as Morgan, Kholli and Alfie will be better for their experiences last season. All in all I reckon we have a better squad than last season and who knows, maybe a better manager.

You'll Never Walk Alone
at 12:19 27 Jun 2025

It was a regular song sung in the Loft. In addition to the song was also sung two syllables at a time with two claps inbetween.

You’ll ne (clap clap)
Ver walk (clap clap)
Alone (clap clap)

A version of WHam’s Bubbles was also sung, which included

‘And like West Ham they fade and die
Tottenham always running, Arsenal running too
I’m forever blowing bubbles…….’

A real refreshing change watching them compared to the absolute dirge that the seniors served up. Maybe the FA should have taken a chance on Carsley.

50 years ....

Went to Norwich which was a week before my tenth birthday, along with my parents, brother and a friend. Remember the amount of QPR cars heading up the A11, scarves out the window. Stood on the open Carrow Road end halfway up the terrace and pretty much behind the goal. Last home game of the season for Norwich and they were presenting Martin Peters as their player of the season. Went behind quite early but when Dave Thomas equalised before half time we felt that we would go into win. Didn’t bank on their full back hitting a worldy or Phil Boyer being allowed to head in when miles offside. We pulled one back with a few minutes to go but it was too late. Can still remember some Norwich supporter shouting out the scoring from Anfield where Liverpool stuffed Stoke 5-2. Since then I have hated Norwich with a passion. Almost as much as North Battersea.

We beat Arsenal on the Easter Monday, I was right at the front of the school end terrace and Gerry Francis held his nerve to score a last minute penalty to win the game. And then onto Leeds, last game of the season. Again I was in the School End perched on the concrete base of the floodlight on the corner of the School End and the SAR. Always remember Phil Parkes being presented with the POTY award and the whole of the Loft being a sea of blue and white scarves and banners. The atmosphere was electric and at full time a mass pitch invasion and eventually the team coming up to the directors box to take their bow. What a team and what a season. Total football QPR style. Seven England internationals including the England captain, one Irish and two Scots and dear old David Webb who scored some very important goal during the campaign. That season was the season that we first started singing ‘The Greatest football team the World has ever seen’, and for that one memorable season, we were very much that.

Phil, Dave (RIP), Ian, Johnny (RIP), Frank, Dave, Dave, Gerry, Don, Stanley (RIP), Don and Mick (RIP), thanks for the memories that have lasted my lifetime.
