But as Marx said, all capitalism involves the separate of the workers from those who own and control the means of production, and is therefore both necessarily exploitative and alienating. It is also a very Marxist perspective to see all wars as wars of the ruling class. I do pin my hopes on liberal democracy, yes. It has kept the peace in Europe for an unprecedented length of time and I would much rather have the right to get rid of my rulers than not, even if the choice of alternatives is often very limited. The rules of law, the independence of the judiciary, the separation of powers, the jury system, the free press and the right to vote our wrong'uns all work for me. |

But let's give him another chance tomorrow night, because you never know! Fans can forgive owners that they make mistakes. This is just reckless stupidity now. Solak hasn't got a clue. |

In all seriousness, that sounds like a Marxist perspective to me. By 'up/down' I take it you mean different classes? Haves and have nots; those who control the means of production and those who don't? |

Are you an anarchist Jellyton? I am not quite sure where your nihilistic conclusions lead. 'They're all as bad as each other'...so what's the answer, politically speaking: Revolution, Class War, Survivalism ??? |

Given that he is hopeless at recruiting managers and little better at signing players, by the law of averages maybe Solak has great skills in getting over the odds for the things that he is selling. It would be nice to think that our owner is good at something that might benefit the Club. |

And you could usefully reflect on why it is that you personally have an emotional need to be aside from the 'the herd' as you say, one of the enlightened and initiated. Is it need to feel special, do you think? |

I think probably all of us on here believe in free speech and unless you're being particularly hateful, you're entitled to your views. I'm pretty sure that the vast majority simply find your kind of world view fanciful and therefore see you as naive and gullible. But it's not personal. |

Think you might be being a bit hard on yourself there, fella. No need to go full Milton on us. You're got some cranky ideas but I think your heart's in the right place. |

One of the problems is that the fascists have successfully played this line that comparing anything to Nazis/Fascists is lazy and boring. 'Yawn, not another comparison to Hitler - do me favour' that sort of thing. But the trouble is, as you say, the playbook being used is exactly the one used in the first half of the 20th century, so the comparisons are fair enough. I think the US will be lucky to survive a second Trump term as a constitutional democracy. It will probably turn on how deeply baked in a commitment to liberty and the US constitution truly is. It will probably also turn on the integrity of the Supreme Court judges. I have a faint hope that even those wrong'uns appointed by Trump might at some point hold the line. You can get the unlikeliest of heroes at times like this - Mike Pence, for example. And it's telling that anyone historian with a deep understanding of the twentieth century knows exactly what's going on. Timothy Snyder's 'Bloodlands' is one of the best books I've ever read. He has got Trump et al's numbers. Has so for many years now. |
 | Forum Reply | Sport Republic Can Be A Big Success For Southampton Says Spors at 14:45 21 Mar 2025
Just like I've got absolutely no interest in hearing that Juric wants to stay next season, I couldn't care less that Sport Republic's latest appointee thinks that Sport Republic and their model are going to be great. Seriously, wtf else is he going to say: 'I think there are some important things to sort out at senior management level - clearing out a few duff decision makers, that sort of thing - and obviously the strategy in relation to on the pitch matters needs to changes radically - started with the appointment of an effective manager and the recruitment of decent players - but other than that, I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in to my new role'. Fine words butter no parsnips. The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Let's judge Mr Spors by the effect, if any, he has on our fortunes. |

Sure, a free pass from his investors. But that doesn't mean we have to give him one too. I'm going to stop referring to SR being the problem. Solak is the problem. He's the one with money and the power, and who can get it sorted. It's all on him from here for me. |

Sounds like a great trip (if you can keep your head down!) My thought at the moment is to go to Toronto and then take a few days train ride over to The Rockies. |

I was planning a trip to the US in the summer but have changed my mind. Don't fancy a spell incognito in a US immigration centre because my socks are the wrong colour. Will probably go to Canada instead. Be good to get there before the US invasion. |
