It was HL Mencken about the American people and it's even truer today than when he wrote it |

Reminds me of Mike Fillery when we signed him from a small second division club called Chelsea. He seemed to be off the pace and disinterested, and got booed by some fans. He was just adjusting to life at QPR and by the end of the season, he was gliding through the gears and a pleasure to watch. It just took time for him to find his rhythm. He wasn't blessed with great pace or eye-catching energy but he had vision and could find an incisive pass or match-winning assist. The following season he was bossing the midfield (with a little help from Gary Waddock and John Gregory) and I hope Madsen does the same next year. |

Came on in the 88th minute against Hull and even later against Middlesbrough when we were losing both games so it would be harsh to judge anyone on that. I thought he was impressive when used last season, he signed a new contract in the Summer, yet he seems to have been ostracised. All a bit strange. |

The pop group Boney M's biggest hit was Ra-Ra-Rasputin. Bobby Farrell, the only male member of the group died on the same day (30 Dec) and in the same city (St Petersburg) as Rasputin. |

I also just read Killing Thatcher on holiday. Like a Le Carre thriller (only it's true) and a fascinating glimpse into recent history with a lot of historical 'what if's' to ponder. |

Denying that you were the stone wielder in the first place and then being forced to appear in court admitting you were actually the rock chucker is not a good look in any legal context. It should be a prison sentence all day long and definitely would be for you or me. The fact that Chair might one day play in the Premier League is not or should never be a defence. If I was the Judge, I would find such pleadings distasteful rather than a mitigating circumstance for leniency but I don't know the Belgian legal system. |

Ian Gillard won 3 England caps at Left Back. Venables got 2 caps but not while playing for us. You could replace him in midfield with John Gregory even though, for some bizarre reason, Bobby Robson played him at right back! Phil Parkes played for England while at QPR but Seaman only got his when he went to the Arse I think. Also, is there a place for Rodney Marsh or Clive Allen? [Post edited 17 Jun 2024 20:36]

I used to work with Rob Townsend who was the drummer in Family. He became a session drummer after they broke up and played on a few big hits. By the time I met him, he was running the Tours department at Wembley Stadium by day (I was a teenage Tour Guide) and gigging with Paul Jones's Blues Band at night. He was (and I presume still is) a lovely bloke with a raft of great rock and roll stories. |

Dave Thomas. He was sold in 1977 (the year after our greatest ever season) while at his peak and never really replaced. Bob Latchford scored 30 goals for Everton in the 77-78 season banging in all Dave's crosses while we nearly got relegated. |
