In Advanced Talks With Edwards
at 14:05 27 Aug 2025

This can only be loan, but for the season, thats worth it.
I mean if you can loan a player on small fee with some of their wages for 2 seasons, thats like you bought them on the cheap (no resale value either).

And if Saints go up we could get him for a Third season too.
Crackers this loan game sometimes.

Upside is we develop him each year to loan him back to us.
Cheap transfer that :P

"Terror Tuesdays" as Gerry Francis used to put them through.
It was all run run run.

Sinton said he didn't mind it, but the other players hated it. I bet Macca hated it big time, but what do you say to Gerry, who captained England at 23 and kept Wilkins in his prime out of the England team, who in turn then kept Hoddle out for ages too?
That's how good Gerry Francis was.

What you say is "Yes Boss".
Becuase if Macca is doing it, then there is no excuse for the rest of em.
Cook needs to get stuck into this lot with Hayden helping him.

Its gotten so bad that any repeat of that performance and Richards might get a game.
I hope they come out angry and mad against Charlton and really ravage them with goals.
We shall see.

Celar shown the door
at 18:12 24 Aug 2025

Celar scored two goals against a defence that was relegated. There is a reason Cardiff went down.
And that's all he did in his time here, well apart from being injured for half a season as well.

He actually is a good finisher if ... if ... the team lays it on a plate for him.
But that does not happen in the Champ unless you are a relegated Prem side already.

In the Champ, most teams need a Number 9 hold-up player; QPR thought they had bought that and that he would also score with his finishing. They were wrong, he cannot trap a bag of cement.

Also, all this "he does great runs" is no good either, as even if we did find him, he would not have the pace to accelerate away, unlike Burrell, who at least has the pace. Kone has already shown he can hold the ball up and lay it off, and now Kone has scored in only his second appearance for us from the bench, despite playing in what was arguably the worst QPR performance in many years!

Poku looked decent pre-season, looked like he could cross and dribble, then slowed down and got injured. So, we shall see.
Nardi played well all of last season and was an upgrade Asmir, he shuold be brought back. Mgbenue looks good, but is prone to rash challenges so, just okay overall.

The most shameful issue was that we had 6 months to sort out the well-known issue of LB.

The club knew this, as the loaned RB who filled in at LB (Ashby) went back at the end of the season and everyone knew Paal was off.

Yet, literally nothing was done to sign a replacement until we started playing youth RB's at LB and then Esq at LB who is clearly not ready for the Champ. And Cov saw right through this and exploited it to the max. This new LB RNG better get going soon or the fire from the fans will only increase.

Celar will score goals in much slower-paced leagues with less press and more time to let you play it around. But he will never make it beyond that, as he cannot hold the ball up. In one game, Kone already showed why he is a better player.

What went so wrong today?
at 21:58 23 Aug 2025

We knew Paal was going 6 months before the season started.
It's a disgrace that we didn't get a proper replacement. Larkeche could have been a failure so, it was risk even if he was fit. Complete crackers. And we let Fox go, which means we had no back up either.

Then there was no replacement for Colback and clearly Varane is not fit yet. Field is on his own. Then the youngsters are not ready, Esq, Kolli and Walsh.

But up there with missing LB is that we need a number 9 as an outfield ball, as clearly we are not good enough to play out. Kone should have started. A false number 9 does not work for us; we sometimes need to hoof it and get someone to hold it up there.

Rest of the Championship thread 25/26
at 22:59 20 Aug 2025

We got £1.5m for him, I read, with addons, which won't happen of course.
Sell on if it's 20% and he goes somewhere like L1 for say £500K, that's still an extra £100k.

Clearing down that Richards debt bit-by-bit ;p

I see we don't get an injury update on Richards, which shows where the club sees him, but at least the club is utilising the Physio team 100% with him and the rest.

Selling Dykes and Armstrong caused outrage last season, and the same with Kelman. Lucky the Eze sale will hide these canny sales, and maybe we can sell a few more. Like if Lloyd starts smashing L1 when he's fit, we can now say the going price is £3.5m and so on :P

Celar and Madsen even look poor in training.
Celar cannot hold onto the ball, and Madsen does not run at all, whereas all the other players seem to be able to get on with it.

Let's hope Varane starts instead of Madsen, and if Kone does not start, it's Burrell ahead of Celar.

Saints bought him for £5m, they know his worth.

No way we would get Edwards for £3.8m with any addons or sell-on. They will want the full £5m, they paid for him, if not more.

For his age at that price, I think he's worth the risk as at this level, at worst, he's a standard Champ CB, at best, he's a top Champ CB. And that's if he never kicks on, which, if it happens, means we can have him for 10 years. For £5m, that's worth it at £500k per year.

Also, I always thought it was 20% of the full sale price for Eze (not the profits), so if it's £60m, then that's £12m to us.

One day, the accounts will tell us, in about 4 years' time.

Daniel Bennie - New 15 year deal
at 01:55 20 Aug 2025

Bennie has shown improvement, but in the position of either AMC or Striker.

Possibly we could loan him to L1 and then in 2 years collect £3.5m for him.
It's a strategy, you know.

Burrell was read £1.3m, which is why they sold him to us and not Plymouth.
Poku was I read £1.25m which is why we got him ahead of Grangers who bid less.

I think the rest is what you have written from what I have read elsewhere.

I also read that our Eze 20% is on the sale price, not the profit, as I read that was unusual as usually it's the profit, and we played a blinder with it. If that is the case, it would explain why Palace are so aggressive on the full amount, as they will only be getting 80% of that to find a replacement.

Harvey Vale: The answer to our problems?
at 16:39 18 Aug 2025

He's not an LB or LWB, the game against Plymouth where a 17-year-old tore him apart proved that.

I suspect his position is AMC so, a number 10. And we have plenty of those. We saw this with Plymouth as well, where his attacking capability led to the 2nd goal.

What he gives us, is that we can get rid of Madders and bring in a DMC and not feel the squad loss in terms of position at least anyway.

Solving the 'we only ever play 45 minutes' problem?
at 16:32 18 Aug 2025

I agree.
What the point of pre-season if you not ready?

Might as well had it off and not get injuries like Dunne and Varane if your gonna still be only good for 45 mins at the start of the season.

This build it up is garbage talk. Your ready for 95 mins of football in the Champ or you are not.

Just back - Watford reflections
at 15:44 17 Aug 2025

We learned some things from this game and so it seems did the manager or so he says.

We learned that ...

Mbengue is not a LB, he's a CB that can sometimes play RB if we need it as a backup to Dunne (but we didn't do that).

Esquerdinha can play LB, but he might be lightweight get bullied a bit, but he's still better than Mbegnue at LB. Dale after his LB defensive performance against a 17 year old in the cup has been found out as not being a LB and the manager see it too now, otherwise he would have brought Vale on instead of Esquerdinha when he could no longer risk Mbengue on a yellow.

Burrell cannot play the lone number 9 up front or false 9. He needs someone to partner with.
Celar is not even an impact sub like Burrell is.
Smyth is not match fit or should be on the left.

Demeble only runs back half the time, still more than the ...
Obvious Madsen which is like playing with 10 men.
I used to say he does not run run run, well I have worked out why.
He failed to do something that everyone else does, which is why he's always marking space and not closing down quick enough.

He fails to Sprint.

Sure, he can do basic runnning. But he cannot Sprint, not at all. I am not talking Burrell speed sprinting, Cook slow sprinting would be enough as Cook shows us. But Madsen fails to do even that and this is why he will never come good in the Champ. His skill is super high so, thats why in some games he gets away with it and does Prem stuff, like through balls and so on. But he's just not in the game for the majority of the time, its like playing with 10 men.

For a comparison of what I mean look at Morgan in the last 10 mins up against Baar, Morgan was knackered and being run ragged as he was super tired by that time and was unable to get back into positions in time. But fair enough hes run like a maniac all game. But this is Madsen all the time, the equivalent of someone playing out of position whos been run ragged for 80 mins hard and been up and down the pitch like a yo-yo and its just not good enough for the Champ.

A non-match fit Varane who is not up to speed is far better than Madsen and the manager almost said it post-game interview.

Hopefully he will move Mbengue over to RB (they ease Dunne back in), try Esquerdinha at LB and then drop Madsen for Morgan (the manager does like to reward those who score). I suspect he will pick Kolli over Smyth on the left this time. And Kone will come in for Burrell.

We shall see.

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread
at 22:19 14 Aug 2025

Apparently, according to the locals, Max Lowe is going to stay anyway. Probably means no one wanted to pay the fictional silly money Sheff Wed were or may pay him.

Really, he should move on, maybe for less money, but at least it's real money and also possibly a more extended contract. Otherwise, he risks losing everything if the club shuts down or he is relegated with them and it shuts down.

But no one said Footballers were smart.

The QPR summer transfer rumours thread

If he can stay fit Hayden is a good replacement for Colback.

He's a tough DMC, takes up all the correct positions and tackles so hard that other players try and pass around him rather than through him. Great to have when defending an attack, really fills in the spaces. If he's not asking the earth then a 2+1 option on our side would be worth doing.

It seems he likes the club and the players, and he also speaks like an intelligent person (so un-footballer-like).

If Saito is £5m then there is no chance, crackers talk that is. We don't need him anyway. We have Smyth, Kolli and Sutton on the left to replace Dembele, who will move over to the right to replace Poku. Or Dembele stays on the left and Smyth runs the right. Not to mention Chair can also play on the left of course.

If, we have that sort of money, we should be putting in a cheeky bid of the same amount for Edwards as that's a position we ned bolstering.

Did I read Max Lowe of Sheff Wed has put his 2 weeks notice in and becomes a free agent tomorrow?
Plays Left-back you say?

Eze
at 21:45 10 Aug 2025

Now, this is my fault. As I am sure I saw a rumour last season that Eze's release clause expires one week before the window shuts and only opens up again one week after the window opens.

Then I posted it on here ages ago, but it's not a given, it was just a rumour.
If true, and that's a big if, then I assume it's so Palace can get in a replacement before the window shuts. But that in itself is a guess.

Now, should that all be true and Arsenal have agreed terms, this means Palace have accepted the offer and now Arsenal are just waiting to offload some players to please FFP. Even if they are late and it expires, I suspect Palace will honour the deal as otherwise Eze will be pissed and also they now have had time to scope out and agree terms with a replacement. Another load of big IF's.

A way to keep the rumour going is to look out for any other rumours of Palace looking to source a replacement for Eze? Where are those Palace signing rumours? I have not seen them. So, I assume it's all clickbait until Norrey gets his £13m :P

If Celar is the answer what's the question 🤔
at 11:47 10 Aug 2025

If Celar's job is to score goals, then how come, as others have pointed out, he's not even in the box for Poku's crosses when they come in?

I am okay if he does not score goals, but he has to contribute in other ways, like holding up the ball, which he did do for the OG. But that was a rare occurance; most of the time, he lost it. So, he was not even an outlet. Which we saw hurt us hard once PNE wised up in the second half.

As for Madsen, I was one of the earliest people to criticise him, long before I was onto Colback. Madsen just does not run, which is why the manager put him at the back. The problem is he did not even do that well, as Field had to cover him a lot in that as well.

Field was MOM yesterday, saving us several times in defence. He also came close to scoring on several occasions, but as we know, that's not his strong point. But it does point out where Field can get up and down the pitch, Madsen is nowhere to be seen. Sure Madsen can pass and can hold onto the ball and rarely gives the ball away in 5 yard passes. He has the skill, just not the desire to get up and down the pitch which in the Champ is required. Colback is the same, but Colback didn't cost us £4m and is no longer at the club.

Preston Reflection
at 22:44 9 Aug 2025

We were lucky that PNE are so gash.

We now know which three teams are worse than us:
Sheff Wed, PNE and Oxford

PNE were up against a team with no known RB, reserve Keeper, youth team LB, Celar (cannot trap a bad of cement) and Madsen (won't press even if he's the nearest player).

No Champ team should fear that lineup, but PNE were so bad that they let that QPR team dominate them. That's 3 points missed for them and they will need the points.

We were lucky that Sam Field had a stormer and blocked everything. And that PNE got their tactics totally wrong. 5 at the back with no real wingers to test our fake fullbacks. Morgan and Esquerdinha were not tested that hard, real Champ wingers would cause way more problems. PNE seems to have an average RB in their new signing small.

Mbengue and Morrison were pretty solid, too. But they had to be with Madsen and Celar in the team. This was like watching two bad L1 teams.

At least Poku, Chair and Demeble held onto the ball enough that PNE did not have much possession to hurt us with. Poku needs some time to get better, Chair was industrious and Demeble is showing his class, but I am afraid he won't last the season.

If Celar is the answer what's the question 🤔
at 22:31 9 Aug 2025

His job was to hold the ball up and hassle the defence.

He failed to hold onto the ball enough, he did manage the lay off which led to the goal and I think he meant it, but I notice that Celar was allowed to the ball first and it just happened to be directly at him.

If he has to move to come onto the ball with his back to goal he cannot do it. He's more of a diagonal pass in front of him, player who then hits it. But we don't play that way and neither do most teams in the Champ.

He's just not good enough, and this idea that he would crack on now is unrealistic. Look who he scored against last season, Cardiff and their defence is gash.

Madsen and he were terrible today. They only looked passable and only at times, as it was PNE.

We now know which three teams are worse than us. Sheff Wed, PNE and Oxford. On the bright side, PNE could go down this season and then be gone for good like Reading.
