I wouldn't say the whole club is a mess. What I would say however is that there is a noticeable lack of person(s) at the helm with sound footballing experience. Ideally someone who has the DNA of the club. Clubs that take footballing decisions by non football people often make huge mistakes. Vincent Tan is one example of many.
Darling will now have a 3 match ban. Cabango looked as if he was carrying a niggle. Centre half position needs addressing immediately. We have messed around for too long. This position is now of critical importance. ( I politely made my feelings known on this to Mr Coleman last night).
The balance of leadership off the field is a real worry. We have no-one with real football experience guiding the American decision makers. Without this we will fumble from one mistake to another. I have no faith in their appointments of players or another manager. We need a strong character with a strong understanding of the club to guide the chairman in these difficult and crucial times.
I really doubt that any off field issues would have been sorted since Saturday. I can only see a defeat tonight following with the same on Saturday against Norwich. Effectively that kills off any play off hopes and pushes us towards a potential relegation fight. This is the crazy Championship for you. Would be best for all if Luke thew a sickie tonight and Saturday, Sheehan to stand in and reassess thereafter if not before. I'm confident we could get a result under Sheehan. If not I can only see 2 defeats coming and our season effectively finished. We cannot afford to delay. I will be there tonight as always in probably our lowest attendance gate for years. I sincerely hope I'm very much wrong with my predictions if LW is in charge tonight.
I know what you are saying and did think of Tan"s unusual legal challenges when making the post. We live in a world where there are many unusual litigation cases. If nothing else it would help force a deal between both parties.
What is the point in him giving his blessing today and he gets sacked in the morning. If I was Coleman I would cancel that plane ticket. Any prospective players would do their research and realise there is real uncertainty over his future at the club.
It goes far deeper than just a downturn in results. There's far more to this affair than just that. Too much damage has been done. Williams situation is untenable to be able to turn things around.
I've posted on another thread the dramatic decrease in our performances in the past 3 weeks. On Boxing Day our first half performance against QPR was probably our best half of football since WBA under Laudrup. We followed it up with an excellent hard fought home win against Luton on the 29th December. That win left us just a few points off the play off spots. Around that point the Luke Williams links to WBA emerged and things started to go dramatically wrong. Losing 4 nil away to relegation placed Portsmouth on New Years Day was a dramatic turn around to say the least. That was followed by a farcical few days before the WBA home game with all the speculation about Williams moving to WBA. A major distraction to our preparation for our home game against WBA a few days later when we completely fluked a draw. How that was achieved goodness knows. Our cup match at Southampton was a complete disaster all down to team selection. The match was a complete farce. The club has fallen apart at the seams since winning against Luton on 29th December followed immediately by the WBA/ Williams fiasco. This is likely to have a huge financial impact on the club. 1. Losing out on a play off place which seemed a good possibility approaching the new year. 2. A loss close to 1 million pound by getting knocked out of the FA Cup. 3. A potential loss of millions of pounds losing Harry Darling who it seems was close to signing a new contract moving into the new year (as it was reported on this site prior to the Portsmouth match). The drastic turn of events is down to one person - the manager Luke Williams. All the talk about compensation having to be paid to Luke Williams by terminating his contract should change to that of us taking legal action against Luke Williams and receiving financial compensation from him for the millions he has cost our club in lost revenue in just 3 weeks.
The most worrying stat for me today Rog was Sky showing us as 24th in the league for 2nd half performances. Did I read that right? Surely not. If so what does that say about Luke Williams' half time team talks?
