Didn't watch Alanis because the Mrs and me are going to see her in Lytham next Friday. Last time I saw her was at Shepherds Bush Empire 29 years ago!! So far I've not seen that much of the footage, but I thought English Teacher were really good. First time I went in was before the TV cameras turned up (and ruined it!) In later years, if you know where to look I can be spotted in some of the footage that gets re-shown now and again. Here's me wearing the hoops. |

First game will be home to Bristol City. Nailed on certainty! Put a monkey on it! Monster monster! |

I'm not sure it's a common saying but "Brian Moore's head look exactly like London Planetarium" is a lyric from Dickie Davies Eyes by Half Man Half Biscuit. That's where the Gillingham fanzine got its name from. Brian Moore was a Gills fan. Every line of that song is great by the way, I especially love the opening line.... "Mention the Lord of the Rings one more time and I'll more than likely kill you." and this bit a few lines later.... "Is this a wok that you've shoved down my throat or are you just pleased to see me?" |

Did you get on a plane at South Mimms services? Impressive stuff. The Mrs and me were once on a flight to Amsterdam with the late great Andy The Viking Fordham. We didn’t spot him before or on the flight (surprisingly because it was before his big health scare & weight loss) But we happened to be quite close behind him as we were walking through Schiphol to baggage reclaim. I said “alright Andy” and he gave us a big smile. At Manchester airport, I nearly tripped over a hold-all that someone had carelessly placed on the floor outside a shop. The hold-all owner El Hadji Diouf was very very apologetic. Later on I noticed Allardyce and the whole Bolton squad were in the vicinity. |

I like a bit of Chet Baker. I went to this a few weeks ago over Highbury way. Great stuff. Can't say there were a whole load of youngsters though. I'm 54 and I think I might've been the youngest person at the gig!! |

Imagine he wasn't already our player. If we were about to sign the top goalscorer in League 1 on a free, we'd all be delighted. So many times I hear QPR fans saying this player or that player needs to go on loan in a lower division & get more experience. Kelman has done that & he's been a success so get him back here & put him in the squad next season. As has been said many times, we are not exactly blessed with much else up front. |

The original post by Charlie was written in a very different style to all his subsequent posts. That's because the original post was generated by AI. The giveaways are that it is flawlessly punctuated and the frequent use of the "m dash" symbol — Charlie's subsequent posts have definite signs of being written by a real person. There is the occasional missing capital letter, an occasional space before an exclamation mark, that kind of thing. I'm not saying that makes the original post untrue or anything like that. I'm just commenting on the very different writing style between that and all the other posts by this user. Which makes me wonder why the thread was started with the AI generated text. Did Charlie generate it himself or did someone else generate it and give it to Charlie to post here? If Charlie denies that the first post was AI generated then he's definitely full of it because, as I've said, it's a totally different style of writing. [Post edited 5 May 12:29]

I was visiting my mum for her 50th birthday that weekend and thankfully the Port Vale match was shown where she lives (it’s ITV Meridian or whatever it’s called down there) |
 | Forum Thread | snooker question at 23:59 26 Apr 2025
Here's one to test the memory banks, can anyone answer this one? Many years ago there were a load of posters up in the Swakeleys Arms a.k.a. O'Donoghues about a snooker pro who was going to be making an appearance in the pub and taking on the punters at pool. Only problem was that QPR then went & finished in the top 6 so the snooker player's appearance ended up clashing with the playoff semi final v Oldham. I can't remember who the snooker player was but I remember me & my mates turning up in the pub in great spirits after Furlong's goal and the player was sat at the bar looking pretty cheesed off that nobody had turned up to play against him. Does anyone else remember this and if so who was the player? I've got a feeling it might've been Ken Doherty. |

I kind of want Derby to stay up because I have good mate that supports them but even so it would be BRILLIANT if Luton, Cardiff, Plymouth & Derby all won tomorrow. What a final day that would set up!!!! That would leave 8 teams still in the reckoning going into the last game! |

You’re right you know. Sorry about that. I accidentally told a lie lie lie lie tell me why tell me why, why’d you have to lie? I knew about the 2 Elvis Costello albums, I got the list of other albums recorded there from the Air studios website which erroneously lists the Pistols album there. To make up for it here’s some more trivia about another studio not far from Wessex … Elvis Costello recorded his debut album My Aim Is True at the tiny Pathway Studios which is on Grovesnor Avenue in Islington (near the Snooty Fox pub if you know that) Damned Damned Damned & Madness’ The Prince were also recorded there. It’s no longer a studio, these days it’s just a flat and the current resident is ex Only Ones frontman Peter Perrett. |

When passing through Oxford Circus last week, I noticed the massive Nike shop on the corner is closed & seems to be getting converted into an Ikea. Back in the days when it was a department store called Peter Robinson, it also housed a recording studio up on the 4th floor. Here are just a few of the many albums recorded there, presumably while people were shopping unaware of what was going on above them: Imperial Bedroom & Punch The Clock (Elvis Costello) Never Mind the Bollocks (Sex Pistols) Wuthering Heights (Kate Bush) Pretenders 1st album Meddle (Pink Floyd) Sheer Heart Attack (Queen) For Your Pleasure (Roxy Music) Rio (Duran Duran) Tug Of War (Paul McCartney) 0898 (The Beautiful South) |

The marketing campaign worked though because at my Mrs' suggestion we watched it last night. We both thought it was good which is a fairly rare thing as we have quite different taste in films. |
