Southampton Striker Attracting Interest From Germany
at 10:59:46

So it is all down to Will Still why Downs has performed so poorly? I do not agree with your observations.
Regretfully he has shown no real ability to cope with Championship football and looked out of his depth. To date he follows a long list of players that have not worked out.
The sensible option as already stated is loan him out albeit in this country to see at his young age he can cut the mustard in Division 1 or 2.

Southampton V Coventry City The Verdict
at 10:51:29

I think we should have no complaints about the result. My opinion is that Coventry were the better TEAM in the first half and the sending off changed the dynamics in the second half.
Defensively we have problems and most supporters will look at the marking, however if you have the opportunity of watching the buildup prior to the cross Ryan Manning was nowhere and note his body language in not attempting to chase the Coventry player who made the cross. Extremely poor. For all his attributes going forward he is exceptional poor defensively on occasions.

Southampton At Norwich City The Verdict
at 14:59:13

Obviously the defensive players believe All Our Yesterdays starring Tippy Tappy Martin has been rehired overnight and the last few weeks were just a figment of our imagination
I had belief that Wood was a solid uncompromising defender. He is poor defensively currently and can only manage a 5 yard pass to the goalkeeper or Harwood Bellis. Very poor and this sets the tone for the team.
The Manager has stated that he will work on stopping the crosses well we all saw the signs against WBA so why was he not prepared for the Norwich game? I do not want to see the last inspired weeks go to waste. So tactically he needs to show he has solutions as RM just never had a plan B and I sincerely hope he does not find us stating the same about him

Southampton V West Bromwich Albion The Verdict
at 07:15:52

Really positive first half display and very easy on the eye. A win is a win but god we are riding our luck. The manager has now overseen 3 negative second half displays QPR,Birmingham and now WBA.So he now needs to show us tactically how he addresses this.
Apart from the vastly improved Harwood Bellis we look vulnerable at the back so I sincerely hope we either recognise that the system of 3 centre backs or new signings in January 26 is addressed.
Games are all difficult in the Championship but having said that would Stephens, Wood and Quasie(albeit he is young enough to improve) be able to cope at a higher level?
Overall results are results. I remember the run in back in 1965/66 when we went 12 games unbeaten and some of the displays were not great but the end goal was achieved. So keep on winning!!

Southampton V Birmingham City The Verdict
at 11:57:20

I throughly enjoyed the game lots of chances at both ends.
My only concern is defensively particularly down the left where Manning for all the positive aspects of his game he remains a liability as a defender.
He really needs to improve this side of his game.
It appears the Manager is sold on 5 at the back, however I would prefer 4 4 2 with two solid full backs enabling Fellows to play further forward.
This in no way a moan as I am like previously mentioned enjoying the much higher entertainment value

Tonda Eckert Confirmed As Southampton Manager
at 10:59:09

Well the speculation is over and regardless of individual opinions now is the time to wish the new manager every success.
I hope Sports Republic supports him in the January transfer window in the areas we have shortfalls and unload the deadwood starting with Aribo who I thought was totally infective against Birmingham after coming on as a sub.
The biggest thing for me is the level of entertainment which has been absent for so long. The days of tippy tappy crap and one shot per half hopefully is behind us!!

Tonda Eckert Set To Get More Time But Are Saints Biding Their Time For Their Man To Be Available
at 15:56:07

I would like this manager to succeed but like the many doubting Thomas I have a niggle with his permanent appointment.
Bringing an experienced manager in to help him as I would not like to see him leave could be the answer. However, looking at the candidates that the pundits keep banging on about I am not convinced they are the answer.
Perhaps Sports Repubic have a gem on the continent that we are not aware of!!
As for Franks we can dream.

Southampton At Millwall The Verdict
at 19:47:12

Disappointing but the better team won and no one will argue with that.
I, like many want to see a winning team either with this manager or like many a strong experienced person.
I may be totally wrong but there always appear to be an undercurrent in the team when Harwood Bellis and Stephens are selected and the buildup is very pedestrian which sets the tone for how we play.
The comments regarding Aribo are spot on and although we appear to have a strong squad we certainly missed the injuried scienza.
Overall the January transfer window should be looking at a new goalkeeper and not one but two no nonsense centre backs.

Southampton V Leicester City The Verdict
at 16:21:45

I am totally amazed and very happy. The win at QPR and subsequent wins have become increasingly good in respect of overall performance.
The improvement in certain players does make all of wonder what was going on behind the scenes. A good example is Harwood Bellis who in my opinion was exceptionally poor earlier in the season maybe his future father in law had a word!! He has looked the £20 million player in the last few games. Long may it continue. Also a special mention to Fellows who I thought was outstanding against Leicester.
Maybe we will not get promoted but at long last I feel I am being entertained.

Southampton V Sheffield Wednesday The Verdict
at 18:33:37

Ask Bournemouth fans about Gary O’Neill ranges from idiot to hasn’t a clue so forget about the Pompey connection he just ain’t the guy for us. Nick you really did not like Still and it shows. Wednesday were not the worst side I have seen this year and if Barry Bannon was younger I would take a punt on him to give us more direction he never wasted a pass.
In the second half as against QPR we allowed Wednesday to come on to us. Is this the tactic going forward? I hope not as we look vulnerable at the back new goalkeeper is definitely the order of the day and we missed a trick not picking up the Rotherham goalkeeper that went to Stoke.

Time For Sport Republic To Rip Up The Manager Blueprint And Appoint Experience
at 22:23:25

In recent times I have not found your articles agreeable but in the main this article is spot on.
The problem is the choices are limited.
Apart from Ralph who let’s face it was exhausted when the club sacked him there are not many suitable candidates available.
Robins would have been my choice but it is unlikely he would want to leave Stoke. Pot luck springs to mind regrettably

Southampton At Queens Park Rangers The Verdict
at 16:13:06

We won which was the main thing. But god we were lucky. If this stand in manager believes the likes of Harwood Bellis, Downes and Stephens is the answer then I am definitely out of touch.
The return of Romeu is a major boost for the club and providing he retains 75% of his ability and his honesty it may hopefully sort out the players who think Russell Martin walks on water and they control the dressing room.

The Opening Favourites To Replace Will Still Have Been Revealed
at 16:34:43

So let’s pay off Russell Martin and then bring him back. If he returns I will never attend another match at St Mary’s.
I firmly believe he is the root cause of our current demise even at the start of this season the Martin style was prime in certain players and has led to the downward trend in our performances.
If there are players seeking his return shame on you. Sports Repubic please get the next appointment right.
A manager who takes no prisoners is the order of the day.

Southampton Sack Will Still
at 22:25:06

Well you have your wish Nick, I am extremely disappointed in what has happened and this manager takes all the blame. Forget the bloated squad who shoulder a good percentage of the blame along with Sports Republic and Spors.
If The club entertain Russell Martin I will be done after 72 years of supporting my one and only club.lets have a good old fashioned guy who throws a few hair dryers in the dressing room to grossly over paid pampered players.

Southampton At Blackburn Rovers The Verdict

As I have previous said this group of players do not know how to win. I like many contributors dearly wanted this Manager to succeed but sadly this is not happening. The introduction of Stephens was bizarre and no one will agree with Still.
In conclusion the result driven agenda will consume us all.

Southampton At Bristol City The Verdict
at 15:44:33

What a disappointment. The players have completely lost the ability to win a football match 4 wins in 17 months is the real story and regardless of our opinions on who Still should pick the inability of this group of players to overcome the obvious lack of a centre forward is worrying.
The blame is firmly with Sport Repubic and Spors in not arming Still with a proven target man. Just look at Sinclair Armstrong last night and although not the most gifted player he gave our defence the type of problems Championship sides need. Perhaps Sam Sturidge scoring goals for fun in the good old USA is an option. Anyone is better than our current options of Archer or Downs.

Southampton V Swansea City The Verdict
at 14:03:24

It is clear to me you want this manager sacked. Your comments are negative and whilst I was disappointed in the result had we won 4-0 which on the balance of play would have been a fair reflection of dominance. You can not legislate for players missing chances. Just read the Swansea Manager view “We got away with it” which sums things up.
I remember the 5-0 drubbing at Sunderland in Russell Martin’s early reign did we clamour as you appear to be against Still?
We are not the force we were and if you were old enough to remember the dark 3rd Division days and gates of less than 5 figures you might have a point. Get real.

Danny Rohl Turns Down Rangers And Stirs Up Southampton Rumours
at 10:08:15

As the author of Ugly Inside you appear to be leading the charge against Will Still with the put downs and rumours.
9 games to judge a manager and all of us seeking immediate success after the garbage we all endured last season is unfair.
I want to see an improvement like all of us but if results fail to materialise by 2026 no doubt the powers that be will react to the result driven business.

Southampton At Derby County The Verdict
at 18:19:39

I am not a patience Saints fan but having lived with the disaster of Russell Martin and being bored out of my skull let’s give Still some space. Yes we have too big a squad and that’s down to Sports Repubic not running the business well and Spors who we had hoped would take us to another level but has come up short.
We have cried out for a target man and have totally failed the manager miserably. The hope in Stewart is at present short lived, which is a shame. I hear the view that Downs is only 21 and in a learning curve. What garbage he is an extremely poor signing and Spors is to blame I really hope I am wrong but the old adage of good enough at a young age play them.

Southampton V Middlesbrough The Verdict
at 18:31:27

The performance vindicates the fans who believe Stephens and Harwood Bellis were not helping the cause all 3 defenders played well. The midfield looked more positive. Still selections were spot on and your article had negative vibes which I am surprised at based on the dross served up at previous home games.
One issue in my view is Marmite Man Ryan Manning who I thought played well at Liverpool but defensively against Boro he was poor.
Up front Stewart is a better option to Headless Chicken Downs but still not sure he is the answer.
Other than that I felt more positive in leaving St Mary’s.
