Division One Champion Lewis_1. Runner-up bwildered. Promoted through the play-offs Jorash63. All three playing in the Premier for the first time.

U'sual Champions League Final noah4x4 v Sector4.

This is how the leagues will look for the 2025/26 season (In alphabetical order)

How did the 2024/25 games finish? Remarkably it was almost a replica of the 2021/22 season, with just 2 less aways and 2 more draws.

2014/15 Home wins 131 (43.67%) Away wins 94 (31.33%) Draws 75 (25.00%)
2015/16 Home wins 107 (35.66%) Away wins 119 (39.67%) Draws 74 (24.67%)
2016/17 Home wins 129 (43.00%) Away wins 91 (30.33%) Draws 80 (26.67%)
2017/18 Home wins 138 (46.00%) Away wins 88 (29.33%) Draws 74 (24.67%)
2018/19 Home wins 123 (41.00%) Away wins 94 (31.33%) Draws 83 (27.67%)
2019/20 Home wins 126 (42.00%) Away wins 97 (32.33%) Draws 77 (25.67%)
2020/21 Home wins 124 (41.33%) Away wins 105 (35.00%) Draws 71 (23.67%)
2021/22 Home wins 118 (39.33%) Away wins 100 (33.33%) Draws 82 (27.33%)
2022/23 Home wins 123 (41.00%) Away wins 104 (34.67%) Draws 73 (24.33%)
2023/24 Home wins 128 (42.67%) Away wins 102 (34.00%) Draws 70 (23.33%)
2024/25 Home wins 118 (39.33%) Away wins 98 (32.67%) Draws 84 (28.00%)

In the 11 seasons of my administration the 3300 games have ended with:-
Home wins 1365 (41.36%) Away wins 1092 (33.09%) Draws 843 (25.55%).

What was the total number of goals scored? At the end of the 2023/24 season I was commenting on what difference the extended added time had on games that season, and not surprisingly there were more goals scored compared to previous seasons, but not a lot. It was a trend expected to continue, so it was a shock to find the 2024/25 figure was the lower than any of the previous 10 seasons, especially as there was a number of times in the season with goals in added time. After looking at the number of goals scored in the four English divisions, I found they were also down overall on last season. Premier - 1091 (1246 last season), Championship - 1353 (1480), League 1 - 1427 (1427), League 2 - 1377 (1645). Could this be down to better game management, more teams relying on defence, or as seem in the table below, not so many high scoring games.

2024/25 748 goals (2.49 average goals per game)
2023/24 823 goals (2.74 average goals per game)
2022/23 794 goals (2.65 average goals per game)
2021/22 780 goals (2.60 average goals per game)
2020/21 768 goals (2.56 average goals per game)
2019/20 780 goals (2.60 average goals per game)
2018/19 790 goals (2.63 average goals per game)
2017/18 778 goals (2 59 average goals per game)
2016/17 826 goals (2.75 average goals per game)
2015/16 778 goals (2.59 average goals per game)
2014/15 781 goals (2.60 average goals per game)

The results The 1-1 comes out on top again, with the 1-0 back as best for a home, and the 0-1 back as best for an away win again. As I mentioned above, less goals in games overall could be down to scores like 2-2, 1-3 and 3-2 well down on the previous season.

(Only including the main results for the last 10 seasons)

The 2025/26 EFL fixtures are due out on the 26th June, and details for the new Happy League season will follow soon afterwards. New and former members are most welcolme to join next season. It is a free to enter competitions with prizes.

The Champions League Final
31/05/2025 PARIS SAINT GERMAIN v INTER MILAN (Kick-off 20.00)

Predictions There are nine categories to predict. For categories C-G, as usual there will be 2pts if spot-on, and one point for whoever is closest (or 1pt each if equidistant). Note that for the final alone, a spot-on result will not count towards the tie-break, it's just the total points scored. All predictions will be for the normal time match, extra-time or penalties will not count. The only questions you can't match exactly on are (A), (B) and (TB), so whilst there is no tie-break advantage to predicting first, predicting last may mean not having the options preferred available. Deadline for all predictions is Saturday 31st May 20.00.

(A) Result - 5pts spot-on, 2pts for the outcome.
(B) Goal scorer - pick one. Get 1pt for each goal they score (including own goals).
(C) Attempts on target - 2pts for spot-on, 1pt if closest.
(D) Attempts off target - 2pts for spot-on, 1pt if closest.
(E) Corners - 2pts for spot-on, 1pt if closest.
(F) Fouls - 2pts for spot-on, 1pt if closest.
(G) Yellow cards - 2pts for spot-on, 1pt if closest.
(H) Red cards - 1pt for spot-on only.
(TB) The tie-break is the minute for the first substitution, closest (either side) wins. In the unlikely event that there are no substitutions, this will be counted as 0 (zero) minutes. Substitutions in injury-time will be counted as 45' or 90

All stats will be taken from the BBC Sport website, just in case there are discrepancies elsewhere.

Good luck everybody.

Club Statement
at 15:19 6 May 2025

Colchester United Chairman Confirms Advanced Talks with US Consortium

Colchester United Chairman Robbie Cowling has today confirmed that he is in advanced discussions to sell the football club to a United States based consortium, Lightwell Sports Group, led by businessman Tim Foley.

Cowling, who has owned Colchester United since August 2006, stated: "After nearly two decades at the helm of this wonderful football club, I can confirm that I am relatively close to finalising a deal to pass ownership to a US-based consortium led by Tim Foley."

"These discussions have been ongoing for some time, during which time I have grown to believe that the prospective new owners not only share my passion, and respect for the community, but are much better placed than I am to take Colchester United forward.

"It has been an incredible journey, and I remain committed to ensuring a smooth transition that secures the best possible future for the club, its supporters, and everyone connected with Colchester United. I will provide further updates as soon as I am able to."

No further comment will be made at this time while the legal and regulatory processes are ongoing.

Who do you want to be promoted alongside Barnet?
at 14:52 6 May 2025

Whoever is promoted, it will be a return of an ex EFL team. We have had four seasons laughing at Southend, and I think it is finally time to renew the rivalry, and guarantee filling the stadium for at least one home game. Also if we are looking to get promoted next season, we would have a better chance playing a crap team like Southend, than a decent one like York.

HL 2024/25 Charity Shield & Div One Play-off Final - Deadline 10th May 15.00
at 22:13 3 May 2025

Semi-finals results

BRISTOL CITY 2 PRESTON NORTH END 2

Bristol City came back from two goals down to draw with Preston as they earned a place in the Championship play-offs for the first time in 17 years while the visitors secured their status in the division for next season.

COVENTRY CITY 2 MIDDLESBROUGH 0
Coventry beat Middlesbrough to book a Championship play-off spot thanks to two goals from midfielder Jack Rudoni.

DERBY COUNTY 0 STOKE CITY 0
Both teams avoided relegation from the Championship with an anticlimactic bore draw.

PORTSMOUTH 1 HULL CITY 1
Hull achieved Championship survival on the final day of the season with this draw.

WEST BROMWICH ALBION 5 LUTON TOWN 3
Luton suffered a second successive relegation and will play in League One next season after slumping to defeat. Poor old Bloomfield.

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 1 LEYTON ORIENT 4
Leyton Orient made sure of a play-off place as they ran out convincing winners.

READING 2 BARNSLEY 4
Reading fell at the final hurdle in their gallant bid to reach the League One play-offs.

ACCRINGTON STANLEY 0 CHESTERFIELD 1
Will Grigg scored the vital goal as Chesterfield snatched the final play-off spot in League Two.

CARLISLE UNITED 2 SALFORD CITY 2
A spirited comeback from Salford was in vain as they missed out on a League Two play-off place after this draw.

GRIMSBY TOWN 0 AFC WIMBLEDON 1
Wimbledon made the League Two play-offs and Grimsby missed out as the visitors won.

Another difficult set of results to predict, with eight games failing to have a 3 pointer, and the other two only having three between them. This is how those Semi-finals finished:-

Charity Shield Semi-finals

mfb_cufc 6 noah4x4 4
The defining result for mfb_cufc was getting the Wimbledon 1-0 spot-on.

blueeagle 2 Lewis_1 3
In a game of outcomes it was Lewis_1 who squeezed through to the final.

The Division One Play-off Semi-finals

Moor_Pinot 2 Tropical_Us 8
A strong performance from Tropical_Us by getting the Portsmouth 1-1 spot-on, and five outcomes, puts him through to the final.

Jorash63 8 noah4x4 4
A strong performance also from Jorash63, as he also had the Portsmouth 1-1 spot-on, and five outcomes, to put him through.

That makes the two finals as being:-

Charity Shield final

mfb_cufc v Lewis_1

Division One Play-off final

Tropical_Us v Jorash63

For these finals, there will be a replay for any drawn games. It will be for the Premier League fixtures on Sunday 25th May. The tie-breaker rules will only apply for any replay if needed. No more than four predictions the same as your opponent, and all 10 games to be posted at the same time please.

The Fixtures 10 games from the Premier League over two days.

FULHAM v EVERTON
IPSWICH TOWN v BRENTFORD
SOUTHAMPTON v MANCHESTER CITY
WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS v BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION
AFC BOURNEMOUTH v ASTON VILLA (17.30)
NEWCASTLE UNITED v CHELSEA (Sun 12.00)
MANCHESTER UNITED v WEST HAM UNITED (Sun 14.15)
NOTTINGHAM FOREST v LEICESTER CITY (Sun 14.15)
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR v CRYSTAL PALACE (Sun 14.15)
LIVERPOOL v ARSENAL (Sun 16.30)

U'sual Champions League 2025 SF 2nd leg - Deadline Tuesday 6th May 20.00
at 11:41 1 May 2025

Semi-finals 1st leg results

ARSENAL 0
PARIS SAINT GERMAIN 1

Dembele (4)

BARCELONA 3
Yamal (24) Torres (38) Sommer (65 og)
INTER MILAN 3
Thuram (1) Dumfries (21, 63)

Predicting results in this seasons Champions League continue to be difficult, and nobody even had an outcome, but some goalscorers were found, and they are what defines the latest scores.

Daniel 1 noah4x4 1
They go into the 2nd leg equal, as Daniel gets the Dembele goal for PSG, and noah4x4 draws level with a Torres goal for Barcelona.

bwildered 2 Sector4 1
A slight advantage for bwildered who had the Dembele goal for PSG, and they both got the Thuram goal for Inter.

Semi-finals 2nd leg Fixtures Both kick-off at 20.00

Tuesday 6th May
INTER MILAN v BARCELONA
(Agg 3-3)

Wednesday 7th May
PARIS SAINT GERMAIN v ARSENAL
(Agg 1-0)

The scoring Keeping with the format for this stage of the competition, in addition to score predictions, please predict two goal-scorers from each game as well, these can of course be two from the same side. Four points, to put more emphasis, for a spot-on score prediction, one point for the correct outcome, and one point for each goal scored (including own goals) by either of your nominated goal-scorers. As there is an advantage posting first regarding goal scorers, the member posting second can have up to two predictions the same.

Tie-break If competitors can't be separated by number of spot-ons, for a tie-break please also predict the minute of the first substitution in the Paris Saint Germain v Arsenal fixture. Your tie-break prediction must be made before that match kicks off.

As always, half-time subs are 46th minute, and injury-time substitutions will be either 45 or 90 minutes. If there are no substitutions at all, closest to zero will win

Score, goal-scorer and substitute tie-break predictions will be for the end of normal time, extra-time and/or penalties will not count.

Good luck everybody.
