If you have the time, and as I'm doing next weeks, you can have the honour of celebrating Danny's century :-) |

That was hard to take, deserved the equaliser second half, and really should have had it, but credit to the WH keeper for keeping out Mbick's penalty and his point blank follow-up. Maybe a lesson learned for Danny in terms of team selection, a few more first teamers and we could have still been in this competition. West Ham U21s were good though, and they may go much further in this. |

As tough a game as I was expecting, and I'm kind of glad it's still only 0-1. Danny will have to bring on some of the senior players on the bench if we want to get through this round. My 3-1 prediction is still on btw. |

I concur with almost all of the above ghughes, an excellent preview, wonderful optimism, and yes I agree your line-up I'm pretty certain conforms to the regulations. This is a tough gig to take though, predicting a team in a game where an uncertain number may or may not be rested. I guess that boils down to how serious Danny is about winning this competition, but your line-up looks good. At present though, I don't personally share the animus about West Ham, never really had an issue with them at all tbh. Then again, I moved out of Colchester years ago, probably long before the East London exodus into Essex, although to be fair my maternal grand parents back in the day (before I was born) were early trailblazers on that journey. My loathing has always been and will continue to be directed towards the cousin-shaggers up the road (and of course the estuary bottom-feeders, but they're currently a lost cause, so f'ck 'em). As for the game, this will be a tough one, against a very technically gifted West Ham side, no doubt sprinkled with a few fringe first teamers. Fingers-crossed, I'm going for a Durhamesque 3-1 victory for the U's, more with hope than heart though if I'm honest. |

Attendance was surprisingly low, but actually very good compared to our pre-Cowley recent past. I doubt the Chelmsford game had any effect, they only had about 3.5k and I would imagine almost all would have been either home or away supporters, not Col U tourists. The Ipswich factor is always there as a constant, but perhaps the top of the table clash might have attracted a few additional floaters from CO postcodes. The early kick-off (and on the TV) probably didn't help, with Saturday morning chores to do for some of the regular punters, not to mention kids with Saturday morning clubs to attend. I wouldn't underestimate Christmas shopping. Danny joked about sparing supporters from shopping at Lakeside or Bluewater, but I suspect there quite a few who weren't spared, given it was the last free Saturday before Christmas. Looking on our ticketing website, West Ham have sold out N3, seven seats left in N2 and N4 together, and N1 doesn't have too many spare seats left either. I suspect they'll be closer to 1,500 at kick-off, and probably outnumber U's supporters. |

I'm sure everyone noticed the draw for the 2026 World Cup group stage was made last week, with England drawn in Group L alongside Croatia, Ghana and Panama. Obviously Croatia should be our strongest opposition (on paper), but it's going to be very hot, perhaps better suited for teams like Ghana and Panama? Meanwhile, the World Cup Willies had their customary draw, and are in Group C alongside Brazil, Germany, Argentina, Italy, Spain and Brazil (again). Well, Brazil at least, but 2022 semi-finalists Morocco are no slouches, so their advancement may well come down to how they perform against Haiti (another team infinitely better suited to the conditions). I suppose in their favour, given the new format of 48 teams at the group stage with 32 to qualify for the knock-out stage, 3rd place should be enough - all they have to do is beat Haiti and not get completely battered in the other two games. There are still six places to fill from the play-offs, with Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland all in with a shout of joining England and Scotland. Other takeaways from Friday's draw - if anyone was wondering what level of influence Trump is going to have over the World Cup next year - there was your answer. Or indeed, the level of corruption in FIFA for that matter, with their hastily arranged 'inaugural' FIFA Peace Award going to none other than Trump himself. Trump is still smarting from being overlooked for the actual Nobel Peace Prize, and I would wager a pound to a penny actually demanded FIFA create a Peace Award for him to soothe his fragile ego. In other news, now the draw has been made, the predetermined "Pride Match" in support of LGBTQ rights on June 26 in Seattle will be between...Egypt and Iran. Honestly, who says satire is dead |

Well, it was far from a drab 0-0, but still a 0-0. Tough game against a very physical Gillingham side, who set their stall out right from the off. U's could have won it, but just as easily lost it, so a solid point overall. Edit: Tucker MoM for me. [Post edited 6 Dec 14:33]

Nor I that I can recall. I’d imagine moved away/ drifted away, as many do over time. I’ve had a search online, and I don’t think it’s anything more serious. He was never one much for social media though, so not much of a footprint to follow. |

Excellent work Daniel. That day out at the Priestfield was a cracker - likewise I can't remember too much about the game itself, but Andy Bond's stunner and bedlam on the terrace after I certainly do remember! With no one else playing, this is an opportunity for either team to sneak into the play-offs, at least for a few days. So, odds on for a drab 0-0 and neither of us do then... "The U's to leave Ainsworth green about the gills"? Might be in poor taste considering he hasn't been well though. |

Could be the game that get's us into the autos as well, if everything else goes to plan - that would be fitting for Danny's century. Happy to give it a go, but will defer to anyone else if they have a burning desire? |

Thanks for sharing that Noah, and it is sad to hear how things were back when Paul Wright passed. As you say, I would like to think the relationship between the club and supporters is in a much better place these days, no doubt strongly influenced by Danny and Nicky on the club side and supporters like the BWA. |
