No respite - 'keep going' is Mousinho's message to troops after six-point week
Tuesday, 18th Feb 2025 20:19 by Pompey-fans.com staff

One or two might be tempted to think Pompey have cracked the 'staying up' code after two wins in a week - including their first on the road for four months.

But after taking six points out of six from clashes with Cardiff and Oxford, it's just a case of 'keep going' for John Mousinho. Andre Dozzell and Mark O'Mahony scored the second half goals that put the Blues right on the heels of a couple more of the sides above them - Oxford included.

Pompey may be in a more comfortable position in the table than they were just over a week ago but there is a long way to go - and upcoming fixtures with QPR and Luton will require no dropping of standards from the side.

Mousinho told the club media: 'I’d forgotten the feeling of winning away, but I’m obviously absolutely delighted with the result. Following the disappointment of last Saturday (at Sheff Utd), to come away with six points from the week is a brilliant return and now we have to keep going.

'After a positive start, we didn’t adjust to the stoppage well – and we obviously hope for the best regarding the supporter who was taken ill. But we eventually responded and I thought the win was deserved because although Oxford had some late chances they could have put away, we had some great ones after taking the lead.

'It wasn’t until Nico’s save – which was absolutely superb – that we were really put under any trouble. That was Doz’s first for us and he’s such a good technical player, so I’m pleased for him. He was excellent and has been over the past few weeks.

'You need a squad – and I thought the second goal in particular was a good example of how substitutes can come on and make a difference.'

A midweek injury update is - as ever - awaited with Callum Lang the main new worry after he limped off with what looked like a hamstring injury.
