Really good interview with Watson on YouTube. There’s been a lot of comment about not really seeing what we are, what the identity of the team is, and this has been justified as we’ve looked miles away at times. However, there’s an explanation about how many sessions and meetings it can take to get to a point where that’s in place.
It’s something I’ve been guilty of, having remarked to a fellow fan before the game on Saturday that it’s hard to say exactly what we are, but with that context and results improving it’s acknowledging that maybe it’ll take a while longer yet. There was enough at Fleetwood to see how effective we can be when we do play out and go wide, which is obviously a preference.
There are similarities to the commitment to process we’ve seen in recent years, and whilst there isn’t always a universal buy in to whatever the process is, if it works then it’s a positive.
Don’t always have to like something, as long as it can be understood. |

It was Flounders at 9 that day.
The numbering system was quite something early on that season, that day it was:
Andy Milner wore 8 on the right.
John Ryan in 3 on the left.
Bowden and Mark Payne in midfield wearing 10 and 11 respectively.
Jimmy Graham number 7 at left back.
Alan Reeves in 5 at right back
Tony Brown 4, Alex Jones 6, the centre halves.
And of course Whitehall as a number 2 up front with Flounders.
From memory this all started preseason when Jimmy Graham returned to the side in the last friendly after Ryan had played left back previously wearing the traditional no.3. For some reason, Graham took 7 leaving only 2 for Whitehall when reversing these would have made more sense.
There’s some historical context to this as Graham had worn 11 for much of his time on loan during the Palace cup run season when playing at left back. He only started wearing his “proper” number 3 from ‘92ish.
Yes, this is detailed and pointless to most, I know. |

Possibly harsh, but wasn’t too surprised Adshead never really reached his early potential. He didn’t stand out as being comfortable in the way the likes of Allen and Camps did. |

Although it’s slightly hypocritical after a discussion at the game today about us having so many players and making do with what we have, noticed Max Clark was playing for the PFA teams recently. Always thought he was a solid left back.
However, if we can make it through next week with maybe Hannant or Francis at left back, TAR will be fine there until Beckwith hopefully returns soon. |

We thought yellow straight away at the time. The more silly one was the intentional handball in the first half.
With the Moss injury, TAR had a real chance to make left back his position and had done well. Now he’ll miss a game. Beckwith back soon? |

Watson’s interview gives an indication that he’s determined to stick to his process and that we are now getting results shows the players are prepared to buy into that too.
He made a lot about being brave with the ball, as seen with the first goal. We may have to get used to the odd goal conceded playing out still, he won’t be for changing that’s for sure. Did I like it at times today? No. But that is indeed an example of resilience and commitment to principles.
Nearer the playoffs than the relegation zone!
Oh and Oldham are as bad as was thought. |

Remarkable that Moss carried on playing with an ACL injury last week. There was a long stoppage in the first half when he went down, amazing if it happened then and he didn’t go off.
Credit to Watson for acknowledging how Moss made him “look really silly” for not including him initially. [Post edited 26 Sep 18:31]

Probably that the manager thinks the other options are preferable like any other choice. I wasn’t the one convinced about it.
Good half in the main but Fleetwood have come back into it well. We look a real threat out wide but short in midfield, would look to bring Francis on for Taylor. [Post edited 26 Sep 15:51]

Don’t think it’s a good idea but each club will be free to implement their own plans and Dale could (and should) just not allow drinks to be taken out of the bars.
If we ever do see it at Spotland, and I think this may all yet not come to pass, it’ll be the choice of our football club and fans/CAB etc can ensure the correct decision is made. |

Totally agree. Fail to understand why there is so much talk about his age. If his performances were affected by it, fine, but he’s a better player now than he was when he rejoined the club four years ago in L2. |

How will talking about where the UK compares to America - a country with more than enough problems of its own - help with supporting positive change in Rochdale?

Wasting time on discussions on a global scale is a sure fire way to ensure those people lose interest very quickly. |
