Everyone except Kone in a flat back 9?

Looks to me like JB at right back, Field CB with Morgan playing ahead of Madsen and Varanne. Poku and Saito wide of Kone. A lot resting on Esquerdinha, if so.

Although, quite frankly, that 9-0-1 formation might be just as likely.

January transfer rumours

Morrison? I know he hasn't played recently but I thought he was pretty decent. Are they clearing him out to allow headroom for a devastatingly handsome, Southampton-based option?

I could understand Frey but, realistically, who on earth is going to take him? He's not what you'd call prolific and he runs like a Ray Harryhausen dinosaur. Nardi, fair enough, if we have an actual replacement but if they're just going with Walsh I can't see it working out.

If Smyth decides against an extension, then I'd be genuinely sad to see him go but would wish him all the best.

The name I'm surprised isn't being mentioned is Field, not because I want him to go (i don't) but more because he's not getting as much game time this season and he's the kind of player that a lot of the Championship sides prioritise in the January window.

Subbing a Goalkeeper - Why is it only done for Injuries ??
at 15:43 28 Dec 2025

You occasionally see teams make goalkeeping substitutions in tournament football, if they are facing a penalty shoot out but I can't think of a time I've ever seen a keeper hooked for having a 'mare.

Is that because Norrington-Davies blocked a full-throated cross with his knackers? I'm sure I heard him shout 'Ha! Missed both my legs...!' as he went down.

Not really a fan of Walsh, based on what I've seen this season. It just feels like he's been let down by not getting a chance out on loan over the past two campaigns, so he's undercooked as a first team option. Murphy Cooper, by contrast, has played First Team football for the past 3 seasons at Swindon, Stevenage (where his stats were decent) and now Barnsley (his second League 1 loan).

I want Walsh to succeed but I can't see him as an option at this stage. Get him a loan and we'll know a lot more about him.

After a bit of a breather, head says 'decent point', especially in the light of the first half performance. Trouble is, heart says 'bugger - could've had them'.

Thought Madsen was very good and Burrell"s work rate just blows my mind! Does he ever get tired?

With everybody's blood-type now altered to 'gravy' and our hangovers technically classed 'hang-unders' (as our livers sit waiting for the sweet, sweet nectar that is alcohol), we find ourselves facing either...

Or...

I'm going full Snoopy on this one.

Season's gruntings! Gawd bless us, one an' all.

Hope everyone has a great day however we're all spending it. Pretty quiet one for us, just the kids plus Granny today. Highlights should include: leg of lamb and a keg of Paulaner.

Peace to all!

Things I am worse at than wrapping Christmas presents

I had a bugger of a job wrapping the kids' present last year. Still, it was worth it to see their faces when they unwrapped the puppy the next day.

John Terry? Fair enough.
Marti Cifuentes? On what planet is that acceptable?

Think of the other managers we've had over the last 20 years: I can certainly think of a couple that I would put into the c-word category but Marti isn't one of them!

He came in, we improved, he left. Since then, we've replaced him and we've improved again: what exactly is he supposed to have done? He did his job and we loved him for it but his new team just got reamed out and we're the ones sounding butt-hurt? What am I missing?
