Refwatch - Walsall v Rochdale
at 12:02 13 Sep 2026

There were some encouraging signs defensively, but as has been mentioned our inability to keep possession and lack of goal threat is a concern. Totally agree that we should not be in this predicament.

Neither Brown or Mani will be prolific this season and that needs to be addressed ASAP. Once Hayes and our other more attacking wingers are fully fit we may have more goal opportunities. I am assuming that we are already exploring non registered players and thinking about what deals might be done in the January window.

Who plays at 10 is a concern. Also it may be that we need to play with a 'false 9' to utilise our more effective players. The alternative might be to throw someone like EEL / Sherring up front at least for a part of games, to see if the ball sticks or can be won further up the pitch (not least because it doesn't look like Sherring will play at centre back). We need plans B and C especially if we concede first rather than persisting with tactics that are not working.

Hopefully we get a result next week against Oldham who lost at home yesterday and by all accounts were very poor. Nonetheless it is a local derby and I just hope our boys are up for it.

Objection to planning proposal for Bowlee

Exactly.
When will this useless quango be dissolved?
The issues raised can easily be resolved or conditioned without a holding objection complicating matters.

Spot on by Chaff - worrying times!
Even if we improve I just don't see where the goals are going to come from.
Like most of the fanbase I hope that I am wrong.

Ahead of the Forum.." A message from the Board".
at 18:04 9 Sep 2026

My interpretation of the statement is that it is a 'vote of confidence' in IW. The board have an agreed position which will respond to 90% of potentially awkward questions or allow them to curtail debate on difficult matters. The Forum could probably not have gone ahead in other circumstances.

It is really unfortunate that IW is in this position as it is largely undeserved in my view. Every manager makes mistakes but his have been magnified by rotten luck in respect of injuries and consequent selection problems.

I hope he turns it around and we get 2-3 points in the next two games otherwise the decision will become a formality. On the basis of recent performances unfortunately I don't see how he will do it against two useful sides. Hopefully he gets the support in the interim from the club and players to restore some confidence.

James- not sure that this is a good idea and would potentially open a can of worms and undermine IW making the whole situation even worse?

I am of the opinion that at this delicate time the Forum could be damaging and maybe should not progress although it is a bit late in the day to postpone?

The responses given post match by IW were very plausible but he is now under intense pressure. As he acknowledges he needs to deliver points and the next two games are critical. Patience is a virtue but time is running out.

The Fans Forum should be postponed as this could do more harm than good. It would no doubt focus on obvious errors with signings, selections substitutions etc.

Sam Waller who is a competent goalkeeper surely need to relieve Ramming at the moment. As has been stated elsewhere Wilson is not ready for EFL2 football. I think we may be stuck with Sherring and Maguire.

Given Mani's form we may need to play with a false No 9 and utilise wingers to attack unless we find an unregistered player. Even so we now have too many wingers.

Our strength is in midfield and we should seek to utilise Adeeko, Taylor and Gilmour as often as possible in coming weeks. Hopefully others returning from injury will also help although most are long term casualties.

I am not confident we do have the calibre in the squad and waiting for the January window will be too late. What has TAR done wrong not to feature in games?

Given that it is early days, I do think there are three or for teams who are as poor as us therefore we should focus on our own mini league at the bottom of the table. We need to be a s competitive as possible.

Unacceptable
at 01:20 6 Sep 2026

Confidence is now at rock bottom after the second half to-day.

It is fair to say we don't have leaders on the pitch. We don't have a settled team and the young defenders/loanees are not being given a fair chance to perform. Notwithstanding that I feel that Ramming and Wilson need to be dropped from the starting XI.

There is some quality in the squad but not in critical positions. We do need a dominant centre back and a goal scorer. At the moment we are toothless up front despite the efforts of Brown.

More than than we need clear tactics and game management with players in the right positions and substitutions made at the right times. Why Francis was not replaced at half time is a mystery and in any case I think that Gilmour and Baba are a better combination anyway.

Not sure that IW is a good judge of the calibre required in EFL2 or knows what his best team is on any given matchday.

Incidentally Shrewsbury were the better team against Fleetwood despite losing to-day so the performance on Tuesday was encouraging. We can get out of this mess in time but football is a results business.

Okay but IW needs 2-3 points from the next two games. If we loose both then there is no way back and I think he would be honest enough to acknowledge this based on his post match interview.

Agree that we need to dispense of the players who are not good enough or fit enough. The management should now know who these individuals are.

The injury list is unprecedented with two more out this week until December.

Not sure that there are thousands out there waiting to be signed but if there is a centre back and a centre forward who can score goals then we need to try and trade. Possibly at the expense of one of our many wingers.

In my view IW needs help with this as our signings this season to date have not been great.

Just watched the highlights and pot match conference. Well done to IW and all of the players involved on getting a result which although flattering was well deserved.

This team will improve over time and hopefully consolidate out position in the league, especially once the injuries clear up. Hopefully starting with a win over Gillingham on Saturday.

Based on early results this is going to be an interesting league with only Bristol Rovers looking outstanding, so looking forward to plenty of entertainment!

Under normal circumstances I would agree but IW is now in the casino gambling on signings I'm afraid due to our lack of goal threat. I guess it depends on what terms we secure Jay Bird if he is coming.

I would be amazed if Mani could not score goals at EFL2 level, but if he gets no service and is feeding off scraps how is he expected to perform as a penalty box striker? Bird is a different proposition and would hold the ball up giving us possession in the final third.

Hopefully if we can afford it the two of them could combine to create something more potent than we have at the moment?

Just listened to the game -another two hours I will never get back. Despite trying to dress the seriousness of the situation up even the Dale Player commentators sounded a bit despondent.

Although on the face of it it sounded like an improved away performance where we might of salvaged a point, did we ever look like scoring? Where are our goals going to come from?

Unfortunately IW looks underqualified and inexperienced at this level waiting for us to go one down late in the game before changing things. We need to be much more proactive. Worst of all he strikes me as an 'unlucky' manager based on signings and injuries to date. Not a good combination.

Regretfully the pressure is on the club now and this is a massive week to try and get some points as well as somebody who knows where the back of the net is.

Maguire injured again...
at 17:43 27 Aug 2026

If IW is bringing in 2 new players they need to be of the standard required in EFL2. I would now prefer to see some seasoned pros in key positions who are not injury prone. All easier said than done but unfortunately my confidence in our recruitment has dropped since last season.

Colchester will be tough but we now need to battle for every point and a draw would look like a decent result in our circumstances.

Looks like a much more balanced and solid formation.

Surely there will be a place for Taylor in the side replacing Francis or East. Hopefully Smith will also get some minutes.
