Anyone see the penalty Leeds got?
at 21:18 19 Aug 2025

The disallowed goal for Eze and Leeds penalty gave Sky something to talk about. Their Super Sunday games were boring with just the one goal scored by Arsenal on the goalline. Monday night football was also naff with just a late penalty bringing up just two goals in three games for Sky.

Six Goals Conceded In Three Games.
at 23:54 16 Aug 2025

I suppose we can all be concerned over anything. I could suggest compared to last season where we beat Preston at home, won at Plymouth away and drew away to Watford, whereas this season our results have been worse against all three. On paper these are some of our easier fixtures and not the toughest tests we are likely to face but the results are worse than last season. Of course teams have changed but we can find fault wherever you wish to look.

It is a test tor our patience looking at other clubs and thinking why we don't react as well. We play kids at Plymouth and lose and bring experience back at Watford and still lose. Middlesbrough suffer a 4-0 disaster at home to Doncaster but then bring their men back at Millwall and win 3-0. Why can't we recover like that? I guess as individuals we have different ways of looking at what happens at our club.

Where Is The Money Coming From?

We are still paying peanuts when you compare it to Birmingham and Wrexham. Didn't Wrexham spend £10million this week on a new signing?

Preston make their point as QPR run out of puff – Report
at 23:19 10 Aug 2025

Change the manager and change the players but old failings still remain. Don't have enough efforts on goal, lose concentration either side of half time and concede, cannot play well in both halves, new signings being injury prone and unable to beat average teams at home. Now seven home games on the spin without a win. It feels like a recurring theme for the last few years where the same issues remain to hold us near the relegation zone.

Preston Reflection
at 20:14 9 Aug 2025

While the first half was encouraging it was them who scored for us. The second half downturn in performance was troubling and reflected the fact it was our seventh consecutive home league game without a win following on from the end of last season. The sooner we pick up three points at home the better as last season took an age...

England threw that away having been 300 for 3 to be all out on 367. We did similar in the first innings where 129 for 2 became 247 all out. We then dropped straightforward catches in India's second innings that would have significantly reduced the amount of runs to chase. Once Root and Brook fell yesterday the game swung India's way.

Falk saves four penalties and still on the losing side. Strange decision to have Falk take the deciding kick. Mind you the outfield players after her weren't much better. We got lucky but maybe our name on the trophy again!

World Club Cup Final
at 22:29 13 Jul 2025

I assume they qualified by winning the Conference league but who knows? Another trophy for them while we wallow in a pre season mauling to a second tier Spanish side. That chasm gets bigger for every year that passes by. I sometimes think what is the point of us continuing to be a football club.

I was under the impression that the Spanish league 2 was weaker than the Championship so I wasn't expecting a six goal drubbing in a friendly.

On top of a guaranteed cup exit to Plymouth we have the guaranteed defeat at Pompey on Boxing Day. We don't turn up for away games on that date.

If we got promoted
at 21:45 4 Jun 2025

It seems highly unlikely that we can ever finish in the top 6 of the Premiership the way the finances and ffp are currently set up. Even if the richest person on earth took us on, the limitations of ffp and the fact you already have around 7 London clubs in the Premiership, doesn't make us that enticing.

Sure we could do a Luton or Ipswich one season and get promoted but it is looking more and more difficult to stay up to the point that the established clubs look very secure. It doesn't help that some of the recent promotions to the promised land recently came up from league 1 while we continue hovering in boggy ground around 16th place desperately trying not to sink.

Right now we look more geared up for league 1 than the top league but even if I overdose on happy pills and had strange dreams of us ever returning to the Premiership what would we achieve. In the 70's to 90's when things were more balanced we won nothing. We had some good and entertaining teams with some top managers so it is hard to see us winning anything even if we see the Premier League ever again.

We can hark back to better times but yet lesser teams outdid us in winning trophies. In 1973 Burnley and us were the best teams in division 2 but Sunderland won the FA Cup. Stan Bowles could never understand how they achieved that. In 1976 with our best ever team it was second division Southampton that lifted the FA Cup. I think Newcastle knocked us out of both cups but we won both league fixtures.

In the 80's we handed Oxford the League Cup with a display that looked as though we were involved in match fixing. Coventry always seemed to be fighting relegation but they lifted the FA Cup in 87. I think the following season we finished 5th in 88 but it was Luton who won the League Cup. In effect teams who languished behind us in the league were winning honours when we had better teams than them. Sadly I think we missed the boat in the 23 years from 73-96 during our best ever period in our history.

The TV series Minder
at 22:35 31 May 2025

I believe the credit George got was that Minder really became about him. The idea of the programme at the start was geared towards Terry being the main character. The way George played Arthur made him the main character instead. Hence when Dennis left, Minder still continued with George. I think the chap who played Ray is an Arsenal fan in real life.

I noticed 19 teams in next seasons Champions League come from just four countries. So basically 15 teams there who didn't win their league involved. High time they changed the tournament name to reflect their Super league.

Premier League Prize Money
at 20:23 28 May 2025

I assume with Sky increasing their live games, from 128 this season to 215 next, that this will bring in more money for the Premier league clubs. Add to that about half the league will be in Europe next season, it looks increasingly difficult for the three promoted clubs to survive. This season the three promoted clubs looked doomed well before the season ended.

True enough. If Sunderland lost they would not have parachute money like us. Now we have to play Sheffield Utd next season still with their parachute money. Chances are in two seasons time Sunderland will be back down with a financial advantage from their one Premiership season.

I won't be surprised to see Wrexham and Birmingham bypassing us next.

Spurs v Man Utd Europa League Final
at 23:38 21 May 2025

It actually felt like United and Spurs gave up on the league some time ago and put all their eggs into winning the Europa League.

Let's face it beating teams from weaker leagues with less games than in the league is an easier path to get into the Champions League through winning the Europa League than getting into the top 4 of the Premier League.
