I'd never actually thought of it, but you're right you never see a keeper hooked while playing poorly in the same way as outfielders do you? It is a bit odd if you think about it.
Actually, it has happened, and it didn't go very well.
Yeh I'm a bit of a misery guts at the best of times, and I didn't like the Sheff Utd game (though have come to see that result a little differently), but I actually came away from Boxing Day impressed that we turned it around in the second half rather than sliding away to a defeat to nil which we did there last season. Bit surprised at how down everybody is on it.
Look forward to reading your 'on the whistle' hot take while I'm fighting my way onto the Jubilee Line, and being lectured about how little I know from somebody who goes to fewer QPR games than Jake Clarke-Salter.
Or, on the of chance we've won, not hearing from you at all until the following week's defeat at Stoke.
I don't want to be horribly cruel to a kid, and maybe I'll be wrong and he'll come good, but if you're 20 years old and you're on loan at Tonbridge Angels you're pretty much done.
The big mistake for me yesterday was Saito over Smyth. That was a Paul Smyth game. Games like that you need your attacking players to attack, which Saito can do, but you also need them to defend and to mix the physical stuff. Smyth is a niggly little prck, perfect for Portsmouth away, Saito's too light and too nice.
Totally agree, and it's why Edwards looked like a God in our team. When the left sided centre back can step forwards, beat the opposition press, and pass us away it transforms that whole side of our team. Chair/Saito whoever is playing wide left instantly looks a better player because they get good, early ball played in front of them.
I love Steve Cook, I think he's been a great signing for us, defensively there haven't been many better at our level, but he's declining now and even in his prime he was never that guy who could advance you 15-20 yards up the field and play a nice pass.
If we can't rely on JCS then Edwards or A N Other handsome bastard with great hair should be sought out for that position. Doesn't have to be January, but it should be a priority for next summer if not.
