I went to the knockout game against West Ham Under 21's in this very trophy just over two years ago when Etherington gave this competition so little respect that he couldn't even be bothered to manage the team for these games. We were outclassed from the first whistle and 0-4 flattered us rather than them. I'm hoping for much better tonight but I'm also expecting West Ham to field a strong side and be a very difficult opponent. I do feel we need to impose ourselves physically and score the first goal ideally.
Has anyone heard anything about Araujo's injury from Saturday? I was surprised he was able to continue at the time and hopefully it was just cramp and nothing more serious.
I hadn't thought of that being a reason but I reckon that probably had a lot to do with it. My friend who has a season ticket had already made plans for the weekend before the game was changed and subsequently he didn't come and it seems he wasn't alone. I'm not sure who or what was behind the decision to move the game, Danny seemed keen obviously, but weirdly we may have got a bigger crowd had it remained on it's original date.
Some pretty accurate observations and reflections there. Tucker would've probably been my Man of the Match too, not sure how they came up with Lisbie to be honest. Anyone across the back four could've won it, attacking wise we weren't at our best but I think that was more down to Gillingham than us. Gillingham seemed to be building up a good head of steam in the second half but after the whole team (apart from Iandolo) went and had an impromptu team talk midway through the second half something changed in the game we gained an element of control again.
One of the most disappointing things for me on Saturday was the attendance. Not even 5,000 and Gillingham brought a fair few. Was only our 7th best home attendance of the season in the league and I was expecting it to be up there with the Cambridge game. Where was everyone? The West Stand looked pretty much deserted. Were numbers impacted by Christmas shopping? Ipswich being at home? Chelmsford being at home in the FA Cup? Surprised if any of them had much of an effect though. I've also heard that West Ham have sold over 1,000 tickets for tomorrow night which more than we've sold so far!
Big thanks to Arthur Read for ensuring I got maximum points. Predicting the U's this season is still proving to be something of a lottery. If you get the result 50% of the time you're doing well let alone the score.
Nice one Daniel. They needed to be Gulls not Gills to have their wings clipped. Was a tough one to be fair. I thought maybe something to do with being jilted or fish gills but neither really work.
Good call on the Joe Dunne flag, he always gave everything he could for this club in whatever role he was in.
I was at the 1-0 defeat which turned out to be Etherington's last game in charge. Was possibly the worst atmosphere I've ever experienced at a Col U home game. It was toxic from the start and was a pretty horrible experience.

As TheOldOakTree is now unable to do the Salford preview it's up for grabs if anyone fancies giving it a crack. Will be Danny's 100th game in charge providing our next two games go ahead as planned.

Funny I was only thinking on Saturday I wonder what happened to Shamal George. Looks like his move to Wycombe wasn't a great one if he now finds himself back in Scotland.
A friend of mine has just told me that Anderson got a touch on the initial shot from Iandolo which led to Goodwin being offside and the discussion between the referee and the linesman was one confirming to the other that Anderson had touched it. If this is all true then it's really good officiating in my opinion. Credit where credit is due.
Not the best of vlogs but it does show Flanagan getting injured, which looks really unfortunate, and a view of the disallowed goal which to me looks like Goodwin might actually have been just onside. Obviously a very tight decision though and a difficult one for the officials.
