Is it being "hyped" though? What actually seems to be happening is that participation in football by females has and is massively increasing. This is obvious in local parks at the weekend. The standard is improving very quickly and there's far more international competition now. Wembley was full to see England win the Euros a few years ago, the 2023 world cup in Australia was a huge success with big attendances. Its not going away and will get better and better in terms of level. Young girls will look at the star players and aspire to be the next generation. Football is the one global sport and the US has been an early adopter of the women's game. Now other nations are catching up. With respect, neither rugby or cricket have ever had much global interest outside a handful of nations, even the the men's games. The ceiling for women's football is far higher. And again if you only want to watch the best, what are you doing at QPR? [Post edited 22 Jul 1:28]

I'd agree Spain will.make the final probably in a repeat of the world cup final v England. Spain were seriously impressive in winning the world cup final, but if they have a weakness its that they don't always turn their possession dominance into goals. Therefore I'd give England a punchers chance if they could score first. |

Ok, but will a Facebook post about Katie Taylor be filled with comments about how shit women's boxing is? Or something about Sabalenka be met with raging comments from men about her and the other women being crap and the women's game being pointless. Because that's exactly what every single post about women's football is currently getting, leading to deliberate reposts of the same stuff because of the guaranteed engagement it brings from these types. |

It isn't natural though because you don't see people doing this about any other sport that women play. |

A male player ranked 200 odd beat Serena Williams. How come there weren't a load of insecure men ranting about it? Or is it only football where men are like this? |

I went to the world cup final in 2023 here in Sydney. Spain especially were technically excellent. I don't get this obsession with men's under 16s would beat them etc. Low ranked 800m men would beat Keely Hodgkinson, so what? Katie Taylor would get beat by male boxers who'll never get near a world title. Irrelevant. The standard is getting better and better, there's an audience for it clearly. Mens football won't die because women's succeeds. Some males are extremely insecure and obviously mysoginist. The small cock comment above is probably about right. |

This. So many boring farts on Facebook etc moaning about women's football, commentators etc. Probably the same types that go on about what a good day out non league is. |

There was a very similar one in the women's world cup in 2023, Australia v France. France pretty much did what Sweden did, missed 2 or 3 pens that would have sent them through. The Sweden keeper was going very early so I would have thought there was an opportunity to go the other side if you were smart. |

Obviously Trevor Francis and especially Ray Wilkins. Ryan Nelsen too albeit briefly. |

Absolutely pointless nonsense. Can't wait to her how about tired players are at the world cup next season after having had to play too many games. |

On a Blackpool weekend many years ago copped off with a girl after convincing her and her friend I'd scored two goals for Burnley that afternoon. We'd gone to Turf Moor and watched them beat Fulham 5-2, so I thought I'd assume the identity of the striker that scored a couple of those goals. Being lower division stuff pre internet, nobody much beyond fans of the clubs would likely know. [Post edited 10 Jul 9:25]

Saw Prodigy at Brixton Academy around 98, great memories. |

I have/had similar opinions of him but there was absolutely no denying his stage presence the night I saw them. |

Less than our fine despite them completely disrupting football and the transfer market and setting English football on the road to where it is today. Brilliant eh? |

I had tickets for Edinburgh in August but life got in the way and I ended up selling them a couple of weeks back. I did see them here in the early 2000s and they were fantastic. Small venue about the size of Kentish Town forum. |

My overall feeling is I'm struggling to think of any examples of players that have really turned it around after periods like this, where there are easily recollected examples of things not improving. |
