We clearly have differing views on the abilities of both Saito and Kolli - which is fine. IIRC Kolli’s league goals this season came against Sheffield Wednesday so aren’t convincing evidence for me that he is the answer to our problems. Nonetheless I would like to see him getting more minutes, both to allow us to give Kone some rest and to see what Kolli can do. My real point, which I think is not so different from your view, is that Saito, rather than being a bad player per se, is the wrong player for our current situation/formation/collective level of footballing ability, and that is partly at least down to the DoF/CEO’s naivety. |

IMHO your 3rd paragraph is spot on. Saito is a very talented attacking player who I think often shows a good footballing brain. But he needs to play in a team that gets lots of possession with team mates who can play an accurate pass. Put him in Middlesbrough’s side and he would get a hatful of goals and assists. Put him in a team that gets 30% possession and constantly misplaces passes and ask him to scrap defensively to win the ball from players much bigger and stronger than him and you are going to be disappointed. However, we are not blessed with many alternative options so Stephane keeps picking him. I also suspect he was brought back too soon from his injury sustained at West Ham and is not 100% fit. |

I thought there was no lack of effort but players started off unsure of their roles, hence the finger-pointing after the goals. I think you can get away with having one or two young inexperienced players in a side, but we have gone beyond the tipping point where having too many at the same time means no one can perform well, no matter how hard they try. |

I was in ER too. Don’t really agree that Saito was to blame. The entire defence seemed unsure where to position themselves to deal with the threat down the left. JCS not blameless in my view. But actually I don’t really blame the players. Esquerdinha has a handful of Championship appearances and the management put him up against Chong who has about 100 plus 33 in the Prem for Luton. In front of him we put Saito, who is a skilful attacking left sided player who in recent games has spent a lot of time trying to battle for the ball in central midfield, a role for which he is obviously not cut out, because we persist in trying to play with only 2 central midfielders. What did we think was going to happen? The underlying problem is that, whether because of lack of money or because the project means developing young players, we are woefully short of seasoned pros with Champ experience who have the nous and physical grit to negate the better players that wealthier clubs than ours will inevitably have. |

I thought it worked well yesterday. Not only does it provide an out ball, but it relieves the pressure on the keeper, especially as all our keepers have been criticised for failure to come and claim the ball in a crowded penalty area. Early days for this tactic, but I hope we persist with it. |

Apart from Southampton and (obviously) Sheffield United I think all the teams below us lost. So we are 1 point nearer to our first and most important objective - avoiding relegation. Given our recent form, that is progress, so for the moment I will be grateful for having stopped the losing streak and leave loftier ambitions for our next outing. |

A quick google search tells me that in some EU countries (sorry, it didn’t say which) your 25% lump sum withdrawal may be regarded as taxable income. So I would suggest you first need to ascertain whether that is the case where you live. Then, as another poster said it is very important to know whether these are defined benefit or defined contribution schemes. The former means you are not directly taking investment risk on what you leave in the pension. If defined contribution you also need to think about where it is invested and how you want to draw it down. There is a lot online about this, but your decision needs to be based on your own circumstances so I would suggest getting advice tailored to you. There must be professional advisers that deal with UK expats. |

I haven’t been there. It looks like a classic flat roof pub and I can’t imagine why anyone would want to go there when there are so many better options in Hammersmith. Maybe they plan a big refurbishment, but frankly I was amazed that anyone thinks reopening it is a commercial proposition. I am an occasional Spoons customer so I don’t think this is just me being a pub snob. |

I don’t disagree that we had to sell Kelman if he wasn’t going to renew. But it worries me a bit that either we couldn’t /wouldn’t pay him enough to persuade him to renew or he was so unhappy at QPR that he wouldn’t stay for any money. I find it difficult to believe that Charlton offered him an unmatchable wage deal. Or of course perhaps QPR felt Kelman didn’t fit the game model and we needed to get a different kind of striker. I personally feel that is a pretty bold decision for a team with no striker getting into double figure goals (and currently it seems no fit and available striker at all) Or perhaps it is all about accounting. Transfer fee received mostly taken as profit in year 1 and transfer fee paid spread over the contract length. All leaves me feeling a bit uneasy, but if we scrape a flukey 1-0 over Preston on Saturday I will be happy again! |

I don’t really understand the excitement on here about Kone. Are people suggesting that we should take the money we got for selling League One’s top scorer (21 goals in 24/25 of which 1 was a penalty) and spend all that and more on League One’s 6th from top scorer (18 goals of which 4 were penalties)? If so, that seems irrational to me. Or am I missing something? |

I didn’t mean to imply you (or anyone) had said bomb him out, just that they really have to give him a chance to show if he’s good enough at least to compete for the starting position. Whatever strategy the club have for the left back position they presumably think it was better than sticking with Paal. They either think Larkeche/ Esquardinha (and Vale?) is enough cover or they plan to recruit someone clearly better. If it is the latter I hope they are managing the others’ expectations well. Last season they had to muddle through a bit when Paal was unavailable, hence Ashby and Saito playing that position, and maybe we are in for that again if the right player isn’t available/affordable. |
 | Forum Reply | Kealey Adamson - Welcome at 13:55 27 Jun 2025
If your model is to develop young players, you can’t send them out on loan, see them do well as Larkeche seems to have done (albeit acknowledging that the standard in most of the SPL is probably below mid-table Champ) then when they come back bomb them out before pre-season is done. Obviously I would apply the same logic to Kelman. |

Luton and Plymouth are 10 points behind us with 12 still to play for. They need to win 3 and draw 1 just to equal our current points. That is not going to happen. Cardiff are 8 points behind so need 2 wins and 2 draws to equal our points total, and they need to turn round a goal difference currently 15 worse than ours. I’m pretty sure that is not going to happen either. Even if it did, we only go down if Derby win 2 and draw 1 out of 4, and all of Preston, Stoke, Portsmouth and Hull also overtake us. Conclusion - we are safe |
 | Forum Reply | Cardiff Reflection at 18:01 5 Apr 2025
I thought QPR played reasonably well in the first half and created some promising attacks if not actual clear chances. Cardiff’s half time substitutions brought them back into the game and we then looked nervy and defended too deep. We also have no one who can shoot with any power without having half a dozen touches first. Considering the lack of attacking options available to us, I’m reasonably content with the result. This was more “must not lose” than “must win” and we achieved that modest objective. |

In a way I am more worried that we played well for reasonably long spells and still contrived to be soundly beaten than I would be if we had played badly. I didn’t see any lack of effort, so I am inclined to blame Marti, for persisting with a set-up that looked vulnerable, more than the players. I hope he will learn some lessons from it. As others have said, baffling why we didn’t have at least one player on the half way line when we defended corners. And on a more trivial note - but a bit typical of how we shoot ourselves in the foot - why is Jude the Cat wandering around confusing our players during the game? |
