His effort to stop the cross that led to the big chance Mills shot over the bar towards the end reminded me of when you’re one short at PowerLeague and a teenager who has just played a game with his mates says he’ll play as long as he’s up front. |

Keep if we can. Maybe he’s desperate to go and be first choice somewhere. Maybe wants to be nearer family if they’re in the Midlands but there’s not much to be made financially from selling him, doubt the wages are massive and he’s clearly a good bloke. Niko Hamelainen now plays in the Norwegian second tier if we are looking for a replacement. |

I think it definitely has been much angrier and more disillusioned. Those more ITK than I fancied us to really struggle and early on it seemed we would but there’s a decent squad here and money has been spent this season for not much return yet. It’s a dire league even compared to how dire it normally is and I sincerely believe we have it in us to nick sixth but lack the real will to do so in games like last night. You’ve got Hayden out there, 30, experienced, a supposed leader and I’m not seeing anything from him to get a grip of the game. Felt a bit for Kone by the time he was hooked but it was an all time Rangers forward performance Celar/Adam Czerkas/Ben Sahar would’ve thought a bit tame. Injuries happen, but the extent of ours suggests something deeper either with the scouting or training/conditioning. That’s what will be the big reason we finish seven or eight points away from the playoffs. |

His rare highlights over the course of his time here feel like they’ve almost all been at home. A night for digging in and grafting, getting us up the pitch and all that. Started quite well then decided he’d done his bit for the night on about half an hour. |

They can’t possibly be that bad again and I’m not confident we can be much better. Kone is so, so far off it he really needs to be hooked. The other attacking players have been… ok which is a marked improvement. |

I wonder if any of our many assistants to the regional performance manager are getting a bollocking for the physical state of this squad. |

If (if) we win tomorrow we’ll probably be two points outside the playoffs so no. |

There’s a lot of context though. They wouldn’t have walked off had the exact same decision been given in the semi. The conduct of the Moroccan squad, authorities, security etc. has been pretty dreadful. Doesn’t totally excuse what Senegal did but it’s kind of unprecedented at least going back quite some time. |

There is of course the problem that if you play Madsen and Morgan you do have an additional professional footballer capable of passing a football fairly reliably but have one fewer to pass to and possibly score an actual goal. I thought one of Kolli’s strengths was dropping into the ‘10’ and linking with the midfield. |

It’s also far more common over the course of a football match to have heart rate spikes too I would have thought. I’m not into rugby or cricket to anything like the same extent but the sort of adrenaline rush we experience even at a fairly mundane second division match isn’t matched nearly as regularly even by passionate rugby/cricket fans (rugby league probably more so but the nature of the game still probably lends itself to being easier on the heart). Stick a load of mostly sedentary, not overly healthy middle-aged blokes into a football stadium environment and I’m surprised it’s not more common. |

Indeed. Edwards gets it up the pitch a bit more so Madsen gets it a bit higher so the winger gets it a bit higher so the striker gets it near enough to the goal to score. The theory is sound anyway. |

Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch of fans (those who didn’t walk out ten minutes early anyway). Fair play Senegal. |

Would still be making our way home from Stratford now if this had happened. |

There’s no chance this isn’t bent. The Cameroon match was bad enough without them needing help but that was something else. They’ve been horrible whingers led by Diaz all tournament so it’s great he was arrogant enough to try that. Would be incredible if Senegal somehow win it now. |

Football has changed I know but Ferdinand was 22 when he came back from Turkey I believe. Kone has skipped all the academy, playing through the lines schooling and gone straight into big boy football. I don’t think it was ever realistic for him to come in and be consistently a good Champ striker from day one. Agree he isn’t up to it often enough right now. |
