21st Dec - 18th Jan plus however long they’re obliged to be free before. Kolli and Mbengue don’t have senior caps and Poku has one but you’d fancy any having a strong start to the season to get in so it’s a concern but it’s what you sign up for when signing African players. Haven’t kept tabs on Chair’s intenational career but I thought he hadn’t been being picked recently.
On the bright side it’s in Morocco so minimal travel and you wouldn’t expect any of them to be playing loads while there even though all their countries should at least make it out of the groups.
A huge bugbear of mine is when a team, particularly away, scores a last minute important goal and the camera immediately goes to the players and bloody manager rather than seeing the fans’ reaction.
For the little it’s worth, 2 of the SW London/Middlesex Prem clubs are away on August 17th so I’m guessing we’re away the week before to be playing at home that weekend.
Julian oh Julian oh Julian oh Julian oh Say that you're gonna stop before you mess it up Julian oh Julian oh Julian oh Julian oh You've got that inner light it used to shine so bright
Yep. Played his part in keeping us up in the first season but was painful to watch for most of last. Lovely player on his day, good bloke clearly and probably has something to offer in a slower league but not the level or style of player we need. We’ll always have the Preston goal.
Stuck on the last ten mins or so of Italy v Germany to see Gnonto getting a red at 1-1. Germany scored soon after and Italy went down to nine for some petulant nonsense. Final kick Italy score a glorious free kick and almost hold out for all of extra time but ultimately lose to a very tidy German goal.
Certainly more enjoyable than the bits of the CWC I’ve watched bar Chelsea’s second half shellacking.
With respect to you, Baz, I get why you and many (maybe most) feel the way you do. Those organisations have badly let down a people I care about and in the case of the UN and Amnesty have proven to be both impotent and far from unbiased. I probably should have just ignored the thread in hindsight as I’ve had more than enough of it in real life and won’t argue it further here.
I get that Palestine is a bit trendy but this is ridiculous hyperbole. Nobody is being exterminated or anything vaguely close. Another victim of October 7th’s body was recovered yesterday. Still a dozen or so hostages believed to be alive. No other country in Israel’s situation would have close to this level of expectation upon it to fight the perfect war in the most intentionally impossible of circumstances.
Players born from the start of 2002 are eligible so there’ll be someone there 23 1/2. Presumably so anyone eligible for the qualification is still able to play. Seems a bit silly but on the flipside the squad would be a lot stronger with Delap, Bellingham (chose the CWC) and players in the senior team.
A lot to be said for winning competitive tournaments even if most of these guys are unlikely to go on to play in one for the senior team.
On the contrary I’d say the actions overnight are the beginning of the end of this round of war rather than the start of anything. Probably not a popular view from what I’ve skimmed through of the thread so far but the world is a marginally safer place than this time yesterday IMO.
What I know about Australia and The Lions could be written on the back of a stamp but would any experts consider Australia to win the series at 5/2 good value?
Castellon is a great, albeit impoverished when I studied there, town. Interesting recent history of a white elephant airport that would’ve opened it up to tourism and the corrupt mayor legging it with a load of dough and the project collapsing half-completed. The local industry lost out to China and many of the factories were converted into a nightclub district. A stone’s throw from Villarreal which is a bit of a nothing place but cracking stadium.
The football team had some terrible times when the economy went tits up. Now back on their feet and stayed up fairly comfortably in the second division last season.
Would have loved to re-visit for this (if it weren’t behind closed doors) but away that week anyway.
Spend far too much in one place near me but it’s where I get some me time post-gym, pre-work. Triple espresso, preferably strong enough to kill a small horse.
In Portugal recently and even in the touristy bits of Porto you can get very good coffee for around €1. Never really understood the people who go to Starbucks for what’s essentially a milkshake but then they don’t understand paying £545 for a QPR season ticket.
A lot to be said for having a face familiar to and loved by the fans next to a new manager, especially in the uniquely odd situation our as yet unknown manager will be stepping into. Won’t buy him loads of credit or time but will buy a bit.
They’re determined to give it to Saudi and a few others as often as possible under the guise of rotating between continents. With the number of games and stadia required now there’ll be fewer countries capable of hosting so we’ll increasingly see multiple country hosts and the additional travel and cost for fans.
The 2030 ‘centenary’ nonsense ticks a box for Africa and Europe along with South America then we’re all off to Saudi in 2034. Montserrat 2038 will be good.
