Fair play to the club trying something to protect the pitch from rain but ultimately last weekend has shown us that these covers aren't fit for purpose. You would need inter linking frames sloping from one side of the pitch to the other - a bit like the ones that cover a cricket square - but to do it over the size of a football pitch just isn't feasible. You would still need to drain the water away and where would you store them? The only solution is proper drainage being installed eventually - or building a new stadium with a roof.
I can only see there being 1 change. Amantchi for Mani. As for us making special plans for Scott-Morriss - yes he is probaby their most important player but Allarakhia on his day can give him tonnes of problems and deserves to keep his place. One more thing - I noticed this week that Rodney is still only 27 years old! He seems to have been around for years. His goal against Southend last season was unbelievable skill and finish - they will be very wary of him.
Southend will be tough, our biggest test yet and to do it without our talisman upfront even more so. Mani has been the main difference from last season and the main reason we are top of the league - his goals alone have given us the wins v Boreham wood, Sutton and Braintree. Yes as you've said we are not a 1 man team but he is a massive part in that cog. Amanchi didn't really stake his claim last night so Jim had a dilemma. Obviously with his size he's the obvious replacement and Southend are very dangerous from set pieces so that may swing his decision or does he play Rodney more central and bring McBride into the starting X1? We couldn't beat Southend in 3 attempts last season and they beat us twice at Spotland so we have a score to settle. It will be a massive result if we could do it on Saturday.
We will certainly need Amanchi if Mani carries on getting yellow cards! 5 in 8 games is going some! Yes we want a target man with controlled physicality because with Mitchell we had zero physicality but he will miss an awful lot of games if he continues how he's started the season. It's disappointing that the first occasion he had to show some more control knowing that he'd miss the very important Southend game he got booked again. Yes in an ideal world we could've been 2 up at ht and he could've got subbed to protect him but Jim chose to keep him out there and now we miss him Saturday. Does Jim need to have a word? If we don't win v Southend it will certainly be highlighted that we will have missed our number 9. In a perfect world it won't be an issue and we win 2-0.
Great fun doing activities at the club before Saturday home games. My claim to fame was winning the Junior Dale penalty competition infront of the Sandy Lane - scored all my penalties and the crowd singing 'sign him up' 😆 I've got a black and white photo with me getting my trophy presented off Jason Smart infront of the dugouts and the old main stand.
I mean he should be retired so I guess he's happy picking up a regular wage and still being involved every day. He's probably been told he will play National League Cup games and possibly FA Trophy games this season and maybe the odd League game should we need him.
Possibly a lot to do with the Brackley debacle. Anyways - well done Jim and Mani - very much deserved, it's been our best ever start to a season and gives us a great chance to build towards something never done before by any Dale team or Manager. A very interesting next few weeks coming up against some teams with 'real clout'.
Whoops! Completely missed those 2 midweek games in between! Hopefully he navigates through the Truro game unscathed and we've got him for Southend atleast. After that he's bound to pick up a yellow before the cut off! What is it 19 games or something?
Mani D is due a suspension if he picks up another yellow card. We really need him against Southend, Carlisle and Forest Green. I think its highly unlikely he's going to make all 3 games unfortunately.
What I was getting at was it wasn't life threatening. There's no way that game should've been allowed to be abandoned. Obviously a precedent was set the previous game but that involved players unconscious or badly concussed and it was the 98th minute so completely different. It will just become a farce soon if it's allowed to continue - I think the league need to issue some guidelines before it gets worse.
There was 1 long ball from Whatmuff in the 2nd half that Mani brought down from the sky on his chest, cushioned it, then layed it off. Top quality target man play - something we've probably not had since O'Grady came - and that season ended with promotion.
Just noticed the Scunthorpe game was abandoned again! A Wealdstone player got injured and the ref called game off? Wtf. Dangerous precedent set now. Shoulder injury - nothing more and Wealdstone players said they were traumatised and wouldn't play on. They were losing and had made all their subs. 🤔
