Thanks for confirming the No 9. Your post wasn’t overly detailed or pointless at all, although tbf it was my question. Bewilderment started for me early when, after hearing for weeks of the expected arrival of Whitehall as a proven striker, it appeared from the shirt he would seem to be playing at right back. This fear was not without foundation as I recall a period when we signed young flying wingers only to see them pegged at left back. It was probably only one or two, and I can only name one. Powers of recall fade with age….. |

Good to see Steve Whitehall up front wearing the No 2 shirt - surely a ruse to confound opponents. And the legendary Alan Reeves at right back. Jon Bowden was an excellent player for us. Was that Andy Flounders up front with Whitehall? Didn't Bowden later switch to be a striker? Mrs Finberty came on a rare outing to this one. Her vivid recollection (and only recollection) was of a Burnley player crouched over a fallen Dale player, holding him by the throat and repeatedly banging said Dale player's head onto the ground. My memory, then and now, holds that the Burnley player was Roger Eli? (I've not gone back in detail to spot this incident). [Post edited 28 Sep 19:39]

I hadn't realised his involvement at Leicester. A bit of a pattern emerging. Cardiff beware. |

Apart from being a ridiculous figure, soon worked out and lampooned by Alistair McGowan, he is joined by the self-appointed 'comedian' figure of Micah Richards, and the always controversial Alan Shearer. Someone thinks this is a winning combination. I won't watch it. |

One thing that intrigues me about JM is that, for a player whose career was mainly as a lower division centre back, he seemed to lack the 'devil' necessary to be a feared opponent and always seemed to prefer to play fair. All centre backs need to instil some fear. This brings me to his management. Wouldn't it be great if he could discover some inner nastiness, and convey this to the team in terms that they would fear to return to the dressing room without a victory? That'd get us into the play-offs and stop us from being a passive pushover. Perhaps. |

In the famous 'Pavlov's Dog' psychological experiment, Pavlov found that by conditioning over a short period of time, the ringing of a bell caused the dog to salivate, as it linked the sound of the bell with the provision of food.. In the less-famous Rochdaleafc.com experiment, people only have to mention the words 'Oldham' or BIFFO' and Realisticdale salivates, and then hurries on to post utter nonsense on here. I think the textbooks need to be brought into the 21st century. We could call it Kel's Poodle or something. |

And the top of Drake Street would not present the same risk of flooding that the bottom of Drake Street already does. Marvellous drainage potential. |

Is there any correlation between the frequency of waterloggings at the COA, and the arrival of a housing development between St Clement's, the Church and the ground? Since the COA stands at the top of a fairly steep hill on that side, it beggars belief it cannot drain quickly. Have corners been cut by a developer that results in existing drains being compromised? |

It is very very tinpot for a former Premier League club, with all that money for infrastructure and stuff. But then they did spend many years with only three stands to their name - assuming of course that they actually owned them. |

Good to see Tony Ellis in there, although back in the days when he wasn't ours and he was one to be feared. And Mike Conroy was a thorn in our side - seem to remember him for Burnley against us, and for Fulham against us too. We never seemed to handle him very well. TVOS will correct any brain fog here. |

As a person expert in harbouring grudges, I would not back Poch, ever since he wailed, stomped and threw the toys out over the state of the COA pitch - wanted it digging up and relaying IIRC. Whilst the observation may have been accurate, our lads had to play on it every fortnight and his multi-millionaires should've just got on with it likewise. A whinger in my book, and won't do for me. |

I agree. For those of a longer history of supporting Dale, and especially during the dark days of the 80s, we often had player, or indeed an entire team, that had a clanger, or several clangers, in them - the beauty and uncertainty of it was wondering who, when and how in each game. Some of these characters generated some affection, because they were clearly trying their best. All this has been stamped-out over recent years, following the Parkin and Hill eras. So Windydale's reference to 'clangers' made me all misty-eyed for a second there. |

I really hope for your sake he doesn't come from the David Bottomley school of how to mismanage a football club, or that he is mentored by him. Is he still banned? Should be. |
