Flynn's Biggest Mistake.....

Flynn's Biggest Mistake?

Was to give false hope. I just wonder if, after last year, had we maintained a mid table position all season and never had that early season flourish, would people still be as hostile to Flynn right now. I have believed all season, after last, that this season would be re-building and stabalisation, promotion would be a bonus like all Swans fans I would love to see. I have said before and I say again, remember the team Flynn inherited, no hopers all of them and if Flynn had not arrived and changed the playing staff then we would be playing the likes of Forest Green this year. He has made a number of fantastic signings, quite a few are youngsters playing only their first year as first choice players. We are NOT A RICH CLUB, we are NOT A BIG TEAM, we had one era of succesful football, which I was lucky enough to be there for. Quite a lot of other teams have had the same, Carlisle for example. BUT we are not BIG, although some believe we are. What we need is stability, the ability to spend a couple of seasons putting together a team, that will not only get us promoted into the 2nd, but push for the 1st, if we move to quick without preparation, we will just drop back to the 3rd after promotion. Flynn has a good reputation for bringing through younsters, he does this at the right time, not just for the team but timed for the young players themselves, when its right for them. I trust his more experienced judgement on that. We are carrying players who are just make weights, we know who they are and I'm sure Flynn would not have signed them had he the money available to sign better alternatives, remember the trust is contributing to wages, such as Leon Brittons. These players will be replaced when we have the money available or the right youngsters come through, personally I would hope our youngsters come through. I find a lot of posters at the moment quite obnoxios (perhaps even more so if I could spell it properly), I seem to get the feeling that Reeco has alternative reasons for some of his negative posts and we have a newcomer in Petersson who believes his opinions are facts and anybody elses are fiction, his message for those who have an alternative opionion to him is we are all naive! sorry mate I watched Swansea first in 1969, all through the 'glory years' and also football as a whole all my life and I don't see myself as naive. Experience tells me that success does not come overnight, I see the club going in the right direction compared to last year. We have players who will be great for the club, for many this is a learning year for them and will be of great benefit for them for the coming years, those players, who most of the fans rate, will improve and we obviously need more players of the right calibre to come in. I would be disappointed if certain players are still here next year, but next year will be governed exactly as this, we have to cut the cloth accordingly, we cannot overspend and go into administration, we have to build slowly. Next year we should see improvements, if not I may change sides in this arguement, but next year I believe is when Flynn should be judged, not this. This year survival was always the key and a base to build from, I believe in this citeria , Flynn is a success.

In a direct response, Reeco uses this argument to put across what he is feeling

Groo, I have to disagree with you on the point, OF HOPE. Every Manager taking up a new role in a situation Flynn came into has to give HOPE to his new employers, his new sqaud and his new fans, and at the time he honestly felt he could give us something different, he did say once judge me at Xmas, which was a dull thing to say. I don't think anybody dislikes Flynn because it's Flynn people are starting to ask questions about his level of tactcical knowledge and man management skills, and his ability to motivate his entire sqaud. Some Swansea fans are very knowledgeable about football and if we can see it why can't Flynn see it, if Flynn tried to right the wrongs, I think he would get more respect. I don't think we should sack Flynn, as I feel he could do a great job for us but not as The Gaffer because of all his shortfalls, as above. I agree Mate that we all would like our side to be playing entertianing football week in week out. We can all see we do have a good sqaud capable of beating anyone in this league on our day without a doubt. I don't think we would have gone down if Flynn hadn't off come here because in my opinion although Flynn brought in some quality loan signings, it was his lack of tactical knowledge and the refusal to stop playing 4-3-3, the two last games of the season Flynn was told by the board that in no circumstances would Flynn be allowed to play 4-3-3, so he has brought some of this on his own head. I agree with you again he has brought some great players here but Groo can I ask you an honest question Mate. Do you think Flynn is the right man to manage us and take us forward ? Stabiliy is healthy thing but success has to go hand in hand with stability, as an example we could have the same management set up for say 5 years, and after the time we maybe no better of, take this season for an example. If change is needed we have to have the conviction in going to get a TOP CLASS manaer who is everything Flynn is not. If any team gets promotion and does not spend cleverly, and get in players who have played at the higher level than we are going into and he keeps roughly the same sqaud we may run every risk of comming straight back down. Reputation means nothing, you should be judged on what you do for the current club you are the manager at. Groo I don't have any alterior motives honestly and If I give that impression I don't wish too, I won't bore you Mate but I do hold the same UEAF A Diploma in coaching that Flynn holds, so I think that does give me the right to question situations that I see, especially the tactical and physical issues of our side. I hope this does not come across as trying to be clever because I am not trying to be clever, do you hold a UEFA A Diploma in Coaching ? Flynn has got years more experience in professional than I will ever have, he has been there, done and had a t shirt but if a manager has shortfalls and everyone else can see it and he can't there is something wrong. If I did have an alterior motive,I would not be constructive in what I write but I would be sticking the knife in at every opportunity. I don' write stuff like Sack Him Now or Get him out Now or Flynn out, I try to see the common sense approach and give arguments to why we should do things. I don't hide behind any names Mate and people know it's me, I have only one user name and I am prepared to debate with anyone, I do accept some things that people write and I hope they can accept what I say. I am not ignorant enough to think I am right all the time but it's only my opinion, I am not dull when it comes to football and I am not alone here, as there are a number of people on the site who are also good at spotting our shortfalls. My posts are only negative in your opinion which I respect but surely because you may not agree with me,does that make them negative. I think we all want the same thing regardless of you being Pro Flynn or Anti Flynn. I really hope that Flynn does stay here genuinely as I feel he would be a great Director Of Football but not The Gaffer. I agree with you about success not coming over night and I think we are going in the right direction but as I have said we know need a Gaffer who can and will take us forward. You write, next year we should see improvements, I have seen the iprovements allready, as I have said we are what I consider a very good squad, but I think we are promotion material but all the players need to know what is there individual role is within the squad, they all need motivation, they need to feel comfortable with the system The Gaffer plays, all these are very important issues that sometimes you can't sweep under that carpet, sometimes they have to be addressed. I would like to think with the start we ahd Survival to me was not even a word I would have evn thought of now PROMOTION was more like the words I was thinking about. I disgree with you about judging Flynn next year, how much time do you give a manager that has all the shortfalls Flynn has. Flynn has been good for us but you have to admit he has also been bad for us. I SINCERELY HOPE THAT FLYNN STAYS WITH US BUT WE DO NEED A QUALITY GAFFER. ATB. Reeco
