![]() Saturday, 8th Feb 2014 14:14 Leeds survived a massive scare in the first-half to see off bottom-club Yeovil in crazy conditions in the south-West. Given the appalling weather conditions in the south-West it as credit to the Glovers groundstaff that this game went ahead. However a strong-wind would have a say in the outcome and the hosts, who were kicking with the wind in the first-half came roaring out of the blocks and it would be damage limitation as far as Leeds were concerned. It took Leeds 32 minutes to concede when Ismail Miller headed home John Lundstram' inswinging corner. 11 minutes later, they were staring into the abyss when Sam Byram felled Kevin Dawson in the box. Fortunately for the whites' it proved to be a massive let-off as Miller absolutely skied the spotkick. This proved to be the turning-point. Undoubtedly glad that we were just one-nil down, Brian McDermott brought on Matt Smith for Alex Mowatt, no doubt predicting a lottery of second half as Leeds played with the wind. However even he wouldn't have predicted the speed his side were back in it when Ross McCormack curled home a 20-yarder after a poor clearance from Stech within one-minute of the restart. Leeds now had the upper-hand and pressurised the Yeovil goal. On 61 minutes the winner came from a 35 yard free kick from Stephen Warnock. Although it was clearly wind-assisted, Stech aimlessly wandered off his line before the ball dropped over his head. Both Kebe and McCormack had further chances to put the result beyond doubt and bar a bit of a rally at the end, including a corner in the fourth minute of stoppage time Yeovil never looked like ending their miserable record of having beaten Leeds. For a couple of hours at least, the play-offs are back in reach again as we move up to eighth just five points off Reading. This afternoons' results and the outcome of a difficult trip to Brighton on Tuesday will probably define our season once and for all but its nice to be talking football again.
