![]() Saturday, 8th Feb 2014 14:44 Luke Varney has today joined Blackburn Rovers on-loan with the view to a permanent transfer. Like fellow surplus team-mate Paul Green, who today joined Ipswich, Varney was expected to leave on or before January 31st, however the off-field chaos that descended on Leeds that day meant he has had to postpone his dream-move to Ewood Park by a week. Like Green, it seems most unlikely Varney will ever be seen in a Leeds shirt again as he is expected to make the move to East Lancashire permanent when clubs can do proper business again. Also like Green, I think most fans appreciated that Varney did try even if the end result was a bit erratic, however I was disappointed in him when he refused to play against Ipswich 12-days ago. Given the week Brian McDermott was having, it was an appalling act of betrayal against an under-siege manager. So good riddance to him I say. As with Green, it could be argued that we are helping a rival club who are chasing a play-off spot but lets face it, it will be unlikely that Varney will go on a scoring spree and a positive sign is that Brian is making the footballing decisions again as he was willing to sanction this move and Green's before Sgn Cellino rolled-up in town.
