I have tried really hard. I have examined all the ‘mitigating circumstances’. The injury crisis. The busy Christmas schedule. The weather. Our pitch. Four games away out of the last six. I have searched for slivers of a silver lining. Walsh back in goal. Clean sheets ….err…. thats it.
BUT. We are 18th in the form table based on the last 6 games. Games that included Portsmouth, WBA, SW, Norwich, Stoke and Oxford. Norwich are top 5 in the form, but Stoke are bottom 8.
We have taken 6 points out of a possible 18. 33.3 per cent. Against several really poor teams. AND in doing so, we have played REALLY POORLY .
We are laughably 3 points off Preston who occupy the final play-off spot. It is the worst standard Championship in my memory. Yet we are 12th. Having won one of those last 6 games. Against the bottom team - where 3-0 flattered us significantly.
I have tried, I really have. Looking for ‘progress’ and all I can see is one professional player unable to pass to another in the same coloured shirt, five yards away

I'd be surprised if most of our squad didn't want to succeed at their profession and I don't think it's a lack of effort we're seeing, more an organisational failing. We all know the issues with fitness, which Nourry must be aware of, so I'm surprised we haven't seen some of his bots on here recently. Clive has clearly invested in some security.
There's also been a losing mentality at the club for a while. Arguably that stems from having hands-off owners who let people pull their pants down repeatedly over the years. Some of our players when we were in the Premier League clearly couldn't give a f*** whether we won or lost and that includes people like Rio Ferdinand or Boswinga who won lots of medals in their careers. I think that has improved in recent years but we still lack the ruthlessness that all sports champions have. |
Its not an organisational failure, a lack of effort or any of the other daft theories that turn up on this board. What it is is the opposition want to win as much as we do and being of roughly equal ability they will win some of the time and we will win some of the time.
What's now called Profitability & Sustainability rules (the old FFP) ensure that most of us are recruiting from a pool of players of similar ability with the predictable result that we are all much of a muchness. With parachute payments giving some clubs an advantage, lucky ones overachieving for a while (eg Beale The Bullshitter's spell for a few short months), for the rest of us it's a tough ask. | | | |

Well we are below our 12th league position on the Championship wages budget available table, which is anything from 16th to 20th according to the sources I've seen. Which fits with our current 19th place on attendances. Maybe someone is doing an above average job to compensate for the lack of money. I wouldn't have a clue who? | | | |
