That lack of intellect and base cognitive thought extends to the party leaders and politicians as well. Here’s a question: who would you say was the last political leader of any party that you could honestly say was any sort of genuine intellectual? A knowledgeable, intelligent, thoughtful person who could think or reason and debate articulately without carefully stage managed autocues, briefings and notes? You’d probably have to go back a quarter of a century at least.
You see the current lot, take away their pre rehearsed soundbites and their snazzy donated perfectly tailored suits/dresses and they have literally nothing left.
Everything has been dumbed down to an absurd level because the electorate at large has the attention span of an ADHD gnat. A useless electorate and useless politicians go hand in hand they reflect each other. | |

There is a serious argument to be made for limiting the franchise.
I've often advocated for a voting licence similar to a driving licence. You have to study for it and pass tests to prove your understanding how basic things work before you're allowed to vote in elections. What compound interest is, how pro rata works, stuff like that.
I would also bring in more stringent requirements for MP's. A minimum of ten years work experience in the private sector, or a very limited number of public sector fields (military, police, emergency services). No more PPE grads who have never had a proper job. | |
