Jimmy Dunne 16:41 - May 3 with 30498 views | essextaxiboy | Thought he deserved a thread on what is likely to be his last game for us . His form has had some ups and downs but he has given us some brilliant memories . His attitude today was superb and professional . He was screaming at his team mates for more effort today , I looked at the clock 10 seconds of added time to go . Fantastic attitude . Thanks Jim

Jimmy Dunne on 15:33 - May 7 by Match82 | Not just payday. He lives the club (I think) but he's not an R through and through the way Bircham Gallen or Cook were. We are a basket case club with in fighting between the manager and CEO, we are playing him out of position and likely to be bottom half of the table next year. If a championship club that is pushing for promotion but needs a centre back comes in with more money he'd be crazy not to go. |
Might just be me, but I wouldn't deem Bircham "as an R's through and through", howsoever determined. He was just as much Millwall "through and through" as and when it suited. Dunne's been played out of position because he wasn't as as good as: Cook and Clarke-Salter in the season before last, and not as good as any two from: Cook, Edwards, Morrison and a fleeting JCS in the season that has just finished. If he were better than any of the others, he would have been selected in his favoured position more frequently over the last two seasons, dire right-back situation nothwithstanding. I'd just seen that - only Dunne and Rudoni from outside the top 3 and Rudoni/Coventry are in the playoffs. On the other hand, maybe it shows why he would leave as other clubs will see how valuable he could be to them??

How comes when Nourry spins something everyone is all over it? Jimmy Dunne isn't being let go on a free. The club have offered him a new deal and the player has not signed it, leaving his options open to talk to other clubs. I'm sure the club offered him more than he is on now, and are trying to stay within the limitations of our budget. But, I don't think they are letting him walk away for free.

Birch was / is 💯 Rangers He was on our books as a kid and essentially left to go to Millwall as the pathway looked to be blocked a bit (Quashie) Went to Millwall then came back interesting bit on Undr the Cosh interview he did the midfield 3 when he was a teenager was him Quashie and Rio Ferdinand His performance against Swindon last home game of the season the year we went up under Holloway is one of the best individual performances I’ve seen in an Rs shirt he was everywhere that day. Pretty well documented that he wanted another 1-2 years on his contract, and we said no. Besides, we should have got this wrapped up end of last year when nobody was in for him and he would have signed. Arrogance from the club (and yes, Nourry) leaving it to the last minute, by which point his head was turned / had been shown interest by clubs with higher ambition. Incompetence.
Jimmy Dunne on 17:44 - May 7 with 2296 views | bosh67 | He turns 28 in 5 months time. 2 things here. 1. If you are coming up 28 (still in prime years) you want a 3-4 year contract to take you into your early 30s. We clearly wouldn't or can't offer that. 2. He's been here 4 years, always fighting to keep us in the division under numerous managers and coaches. He's made the EFL team of the year and probably feels he deserves a crack at playing for a team either pushing for promotion or fighting to stay in the premiership. You only get one crack at this career. Who could blame him?

Sorry I never knew this if true When did the club offer Dunne, improved wages and also where has it been said that Dunne and his representatives turn it down. How do you know this as fact ??? If you can't corroborate what you are saying here as a fact, am inclined to only accept this as hearsay to match up with an agenda. Not seen anywhere, where it has been evidenced that the club have offered Jimmy a new deal.. And if he does leave, it would be on a free also, so your words incorrect regards that also....... Some have said it's common knowledge he was offered a deal but wanted a couple more years. WLS seem about the most reliable source and I don't remember them reporting this. I may be wrong though.

I don’t get your first point Bosh. He’ll be 30 or 31 when the next contract ends, depending on whether it’s three or four years. That’s not old for a defender with an excellent fitness record so I don’t understand why we can’t or won’t offer him that? [Post edited 7 May 19:41]

Does anyone actually know what we have or haven't offered him? Maybe we have offered 3 +1 year on more money but he has been offered more by another club who stand a better chance of going up through the play offs. He's a professional footballer and needs to look out for his own interests. I'd be amazed if we hadn't offered him more money but I'd also be amazed if, given his stats this year, he hadn't been offered significantly more by a bigger club. As Clive regularly points out the league table largely mirrors wages paid and we're mid to lower mid table. This means there will be 8-10 clubs with the means to pay their players more than we can. That much seems clear.

Do you honestly think we've not offered him anything? I just can't see that being the case. Like I said we're hamstrung by the wages we can offer. There are plenty of clubs in the championship who can and do pay higher wages. Jimmy has to look after his future so will go where he can get paid the most. That's the way of the world.
Jimmy Dunne on 20:58 - May 7 with 1665 views | Hunterhoop | He wanted 4 years. We would only stretch to 3. That is why there was no extension signed. The result is he leaves the club for nothing. You can’t spin that.

Is that fact? I don't remember seeing it reported. I'd be surprised if there weren't clubs in the league who would be offering to pay him a fair bit more than we could whether that's on 3 years or 4 years. Why would he not hold off and wait for more money?

Well, I’m not Dunne’s agent nor Christian Nourry, so I can’t confirm it is a fact. However, it’s what I was told by a reliable person. Was told salary was not the issue, and he would have signed, but for the length of the renewal.

If it's true then it's a shame we wouldn't offer him another year. Not exactly a big gamble given his age and fitness record. Hopefully for Jimmy, he's now going to get himself a significant hike in wages by signing for a club with more a more realistic chance of promotion. He deserves success wherever he ends up.

And who was the ‘reliable person’ who knows the confidential details of a player’s contract offer then? Could it be the person based in Sweden who claims on here to know a lot of what players’ wages are? 🤔
