We seem to be in agreement. Although not sure why you've quoted "very poor"..That wasn't mentioned in my post.

But so have others in the same games, bad team set up, dropping off of intensity, silly mistakes, games which we seem to have the upper hand snowball out of control. Don't think Stamenic is comfortable hanging deep.having quick nippy players pushing forward on him making him turn, even yesterday he just seemed to get in Cabango and Burgess way as they attacked the aerial ball but once the ball is at his feet he has a range of options available to get us on the front foot maybe needs a couple of dogs around him to get him in possession of the ball and then offer him options tieing in players with their movement to give him a bit of time and space on the ball. You called Fulton "execrable" based on about 90 seconds of game time. That's you showing your love is it? Stop saying stupid stuff and people will leave you alone. It's not complicated.

Stamenic isn't all that comfortable on the ball for the job we seem to be asking him to do. As a ball winner, physical presence etc he's decent. As a playmaker/tempo setter he struggles. Quite a few times yesterday he received the ball in space with time to turn and move and froze like a bunny in headlights. His movement into space to receive passes needs work as well. Maybe in time this will come with him, but at the moment if we're looking to improve our tempo and fluidity on the ball he's not the answer.

They do but I’m certain many stay away from our good natured banter I like this site We all do I will suggest many many look in for information as this site is clearly pre eminent in that regard If people want to know what’s going on they just look up Swans Indy Our official site is poor and Wales on line simply risible so fans really have little choice really That’s not meant as a criticism but as a fact Fans NEED this site [Post edited 7 Dec 10:33]

I know his personal issues overshadow everything at the moment, but i wonder how much influence holding midfield Leon has had on him. Similarly Joe with Eon. |
There was one moment earlyish in the first half when Stamenic had received the ball in our half and went to turn and play a pass backwards and the crowd around me made one extremely loud sigh followed by a cry of " forward" , he did play the pass forward and that for me was his turning point in the match because then on in he looked to play forward at any available moment.

Yes, I thought the same. AO’C mentioned the incident on SwansTV and you could hear the crowd moan as you say. Those bad habits need to be chipped away at slowly. It’s got to be instinctive when to go forward or back and it looked as if there were signs of this yesterday. Nice to see the crowd act as a coach as well as a 12th man😁

Think his movement to find space in his intial appearances were good but has seem to have changed, I did mention in previous post about his rash rushed clearances into no man's land that just gave possession away. This next statement may seem a bit of a stretch but I liken him to Fer I want to see him with the ball at his feet and pushing forward in the middle of the park further up the pitch, yes he offers a bit of height in the middle of the park but I don't want to see him being forced into a solely defence role as we have seen Fulton become a scapegoat for all that ailed a poorly set up team over many years. As a team we need different types of players being used in the best ways to suit their skills for the benefit of the team getting the partnerships right in all areas of the pitch to be able to adapt to situations as needed.

All that mattered today was 3 pts. If the players didn’t show 100% commitment to the badge today, after countless gutless performances, I wasn’t going to be bothered to use my season again. If they couldn’t be bothered, why should I ? We edged our way into the game, with Eom doing what wingers should do, create a bit of havoc, and get you off your seat, plus showing commitment with a great sliding tackle on the halfway line, Which made me think, imagine we had 2 wide players creating havoc, that would bring Vipotnik more into the game, and create more shots. But our other wide player is Ronald. He absolutely does my head in. Why haven’t successive managers made him write a hundred lines of… “I must not fall over when an opponent breathes on me” and … “I will try and take on an opponent” and… “I will not kick the ball straight at an opponent when crossing the ball” Surely when we are staring relegation in the face we have to look at all our options out wide, like bringing back Wilson and Congreve ? The old adage of “If you’re good enough your old enough “ still rings true. Concerning the game, Stamanic was playing really well and looked like he wanted to stamp his authority on the game. Widell was looking to take the ball on the half turn, which provided more passes forwards, which made us look more direct than of late. Add to that the all round footballing brain and skills, of already the player of the season Galbraith, plus Franco making a nuisance of himself, we were looking more of a unit. Having said that, for what ever the reason Cabango and Burgess look less of a unit as the games go by. Late on Oxford had very good chance when Romenij‘s shot was stopped by Vig’s outstretched foot. Both Cabango and Burgess more or less got in each other’s way, but you can’t blame their commitment to the team, it just seems like a loss of confidence issue, which goes through teams that are struggling like us at the moment. Overall an improvement, but still lots to do to be more consistent in playing through the pitch, to create more shots and chances. I just hope the work permits issue is resolved asap, because the basement battle clock is ticking, and Matos needs all the help that’s possible.

If, in time he can be 2/3 of the player Leroy Fer was then he'll have done well. LF is precisely the kind of player we've been missing. The kind of player N'tcham could have been for us if Russy wasn't a moron.

| Swansea City v Oxford United : Match day thread on 14:43 - Dec 7 with 670 views | QJumpingJack | Yesterday's win is a very small step in the right direction. One would hope we can beat Portsmouth on Tuesday night but it won't be easy. But what happens after that. Stoke away, Wrexham home and Coventry away. A tough run. I read on Phil's site that some of the owners were in attendance yesterday - it makes you wonder what they think of this underperformance so far this season. Any way 9 more wins / 27 points and we will be safe! | | | |

Yes, your opening statement is correct. The old adage that you have to "crawl before you walk, walk before you run" applies here. Yesterday was a good crawl.

| Swansea City v Oxford United : Match day thread on 18:20 - Dec 6 by Whiterockin | Better today but not by a great deal. Don't let the result mask the facts Oxford were very poor and had to resort to niggling fouls to stay in the game. We made quite a few silly mistakes and gave the ball away easily in dangerous areas and could easily have been punished. Cabango, what on earth has happened to him, he needs resting. We could have been caught out when Galbraith continually drifted into midfield, if he plays full back he needs to be more disciplined. Eon played well, Ronald was better but Stamenic was immense and MoM for me. The substitutions brought nothing when they came on, is our squad really that strong? We game managed the last 10 minutes very well. Currently we are a poor team and although today we had a welcome result Matos has an incredible amount of work to do to even get us to mid table. |
We were thrashed by a poor west Brom team the week before. We were stronger in every facet of the game against Oxford, who had managed to beat Ipswich at home (who had beaten us 4-1 and annihilated us). Can’t you allow yourself even som cautious optimism? We won our first game for a month - savour it.

By tbe sounds of it tbe full week matos had made a difference on Saturday. You are correct, west brom arent that good, we lost that game rather than them winning in and as you say we beat an Oxford side who beaten a team a week before who best us 4 -1. I am cautiously positive about tonight as we played Saturday and Portsmouth had a free Saturday, i just hope matos uses his substitutions well.

That really kinda sums up the Championship in general, but particularly this season as the parachute clubs have been iffy. Everyone is beatable, and a team that can put together a good run of form can challenge. Middlesbrough are second, and they were no great shakes when we played them.

You will always get strange wins in the championship. That Oxford win was their only win in the last 7 [I think], Oxford are a poor niggling side.
