| West Brom Game Matchday Thread on 00:23 - Dec 10 by Bridders2 | Another win, I couldn't be happier BUT. How come we keep reverting to Russball? I know Bazunu likes playing with his feet, but that was getting ridiculous. In the first half we started to knock it round the back too much, but the 2nd half was nearly all tippy-tappy in our own penalty area. I understand that there are periods in the game when you have to slow it down and keep the ball, but for us it nearly always ends in tears. Keep attacking and manage the game out in the last 15 minutes. And agree our subs are not good enough. |
That second half drop off is a cause for concern but I am sure Tonda knows that!! However it’s reminiscent of Ralph’s early days when we went hell for leather for the first 45 and then suffered second half Not sure Tonda has got the subs totally right either in the last couple of games but I also agree our bench isn’t the strongest So hope January sees some experience and quality come in where we need it to kick us on But 6 out of 7 ain’t bad!

Old habits die hard? It's not a bad skill to be able to play the ball out of defence and the joy with Tonda is that we can then also link that into quick aggressive attacks with many players involved. It not surprising that we sometimes default to old ways ways of playing. It's still all good. To be honest the transformation is unbelievable.

Agree with that, but we always look vulnerable when we go into defensive mode. If we could keep the offensive side of our game going longer we might have less scares like last night. Anyway, he'll look at that part of our game for sure....he's doing a brilliant job.

I think that's right. Over the last 18 months we've not exactly been solid when trying to defend. I think all those defeats will have left some scars. So used to conceding goals that some kind of panic will set in when under sustained attack.

I think possibly the game just became so easy, we were 3 nil up, the ground went silent and the players just got a bit complacent and sloppy. They then get one back, and West Brom upped their game, making it a lot closer than we all expected. We stopped marking up properly, we stopped jumping in front of shots, and with West Brom fighting harder than the first half, it just got a bit messy. It's also arguable that not having Sciensa on the pitch is an issue.
