and then our go to cack defending thats why we need a 3 goal start

| West Brom Game Matchday Thread on 22:02 - Dec 9 with 725 views | NYC_Saint | It strikes me the bench is weak but we need to rotate players to keep them fresh and injury free. Hopefully in Jan we can clear out some of those not up to snuff and bring in competition for the first team that will add to the team when they come off the bench rather than dilute it. (A bit like the England rugby union team bringing on some of their stronger forwards with 30 mins to go to overwhelm a tiring team and out muscle the second tier opposition bench players brought on to counter them). | | | |
| West Brom Game Matchday Thread on 22:04 - Dec 9 with 715 views | InTimeAddedOn | That ended up far too close for comfort. West Brom looked a different team after the break, that said we gave them a helping hand defensively. It seems that once we start making subs and the likes of Scienza and AA depart we rapidly go from setting the opposition problems to solve to having to solve the problems they are now setting us. Despite the squad size I don't think we have the quality in depth so seem to suffer in the last third of games. All said and done, another 3 points and after a very brief flirtation with a play off place for a few minutes around half time we are up to 8th overnight and the Skates are still in the bottom 3. | | | |
| West Brom Game Matchday Thread on 22:05 - Dec 9 with 711 views | NYC_Saint | Should also say 6 wins from 7 looked an impossibility 7 games ago so not trying to put a negative spin, just saying if we can upgrade a few players in Jan we can hopefully enjoy the second halves of games too! | | | |
| West Brom Game Matchday Thread on 22:17 - Dec 9 with 649 views | dirk_doone | Saints win, Pompey lose again! What fun it will be if we get promoted and they get relegated in the same season. It will certainly be one of the most memorable seasons in South Coast football history. | |

Tonda needs to sort this problem out. We have to play for 90 mins +. Teams are going to suss us out if we don't change. We are just not very good defensively that's why we must keep on the offensive. We look good when going forward, but we look really dodgy at the back. I'm not sure what happens at half time, does Tonda tell them to save their energy & just manage the game out because if we continue to do that our bubble will definitely burst.

All said and done, I still fail to see what Aribo contributes to anything. Is Matsuki injured or just out of favour?

He knows what he's doing. He's managing the team to a series of wins and his ultimate goal is to get us promoted, wheher we win games 4-3 or 6-0. He subs key players as early as he feels he can get away with it, with the next game in mind. With his style of play, we are far more likely to win 3-2 than 1-0. Yes, it makes fans feel nervous sometimes, but in the end it will be worth it. As long as we keep winning and get promoted, he is right.

I struggle to be hyper critical of a manager who is boasting a win % just shy of 90. I also console myself that any team I've played in, or watched, has always won if they score more goals than the other lot.

I don't disagree but the modern game has made the 6 yard box a bear pit of shithousery when well delivered corners come in. There's an element of lottery there. Here's an idea...spend some time coaching how not to concede corners ( not a serious suggestion)

But we only just get away with it as was evident tonight. Yet again missed chances by the Baggies saved us

Brum was apparently a big test and we passed that one, but tonight we just need to do some more revision to ensure we pass that test on Saturday Start the defensive, game management to keep the 3 points on 80 minutes rather than 45 minutes

| West Brom Game Matchday Thread on 23:12 - Dec 9 with 474 views | Heisenberg | We looked tired second half and couldn’t keep the ball in midfield. Need to get Romeu up to speed and sharpen up defending set pieces but a wins a win. First half we were superb and if we play like that on a regular basis we can beat anyone in this league. Busy Xmas period will test the squad buts it’s the same for everyone. | |

Indeed regards our attack, averaging 3 goals a game under Eckert, but work to be done on defending corners, dare say the blame lies with Stephens 😏

Tonda needs to do whatever he wants to do. 6 wins in your first seven is pretty special at any level and this is not an easy league.

| West Brom Game Matchday Thread on 00:23 - Dec 10 with 359 views | Bridders2 | Another win, I couldn't be happier BUT. How come we keep reverting to Russball? I know Bazunu likes playing with his feet, but that was getting ridiculous. In the first half we started to knock it round the back too much, but the 2nd half was nearly all tippy-tappy in our own penalty area. I understand that there are periods in the game when you have to slow it down and keep the ball, but for us it nearly always ends in tears. Keep attacking and manage the game out in the last 15 minutes. And agree our subs are not good enough. | | | |
