Coventry City v Swansea City : Match day thread on 11:47 - Dec 27 by Whiterockin

I would be very, very surprised if Cullen goes anywhere before the summer, even then I think it would be very doubtful. He is not everyone's favourite but is very well thought of by the club and it seems every manager we have. Personally I can't see him agreeing to a loan as he is very settled on a personal side and has just bought/buying a new house. If the club say they no longer want the Welsh International and squad member then so be it and they could try and sell him but I don't think he will go, he has a contract until 2028 and is a one club player a rarity today.

Cullen is an enigma and he does give everything. He is a natural goal scorer but has missed a few recently that he normally puts away. I have had days when I see him come on the pitch and am resigned to us giving up and then he does what he is more than capable of. Then the following game I'm glad he is on the pitch and he misses golden opportunities.
He lives in Bishopston and seems very settled so he isn't going anywhere.

Cullen isn't a natural goal scorer. He misses far more straightforward chances than he buries. What he does do is come up with the occasional important goal, when then somehow makes people forget how little he contributes otherwise.

Whether Cullen is settled in Swansea or not should have little bearing on whether the club keeps him. If we've got serious ambitions of exiting the division in an upwards direction it'll be a miracle if we're doing it with him as even a regular player off the bench, never mind starter.

Some people may think I'm being harsh on him and perhaps I am, but for me he's in the same file as Oli Cooper. Another player that people thought was worth keeping around because "he gives his all" and scored the odd goal.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

He isn’t a natural finisher - agreed.

Similar to Oli Cooper - no chance. Cooper doesn’t get that chance yesterday because he doesn’t make the run to get a practically open goal between two bigger, stronger centre backs. Obviously I can’t defend the attempt from there, it was woeful.

We had two big chances yesterday…

Galbraith-Cullen-Vipotnik
Galbraith-Cullen

Stick Oli Cooper in there and neither chance happens.

Strikers missing chances is frustrating, but I’m more critical of strikers not putting themselves in positions to get chances.

I'm not comparing him to Cooper in terms of style of play.

Nor am I really an in fact there are some similarities in playing style.

But Cullen is routinely involved in either creating decent chances or getting on the end of them. Where he evidently needs to improve, is being clinical when he gets those chances.

Why Vitor left him on that long only he knows, saving Zan for Monday is one thing but Cullen hadn’t done anything all game then missed a sitter,
I’ve said before he wouldn’t get in any other championship team and should definitely not be starting a game in ours

Well he (along with Galbraith who played the main part) made the early chance for Vipotnik. We only had two clear chances all game. People don’t see the skill involved in getting the chance he missed, it’s not a coincidence they seem to drop to him.

But yes, it was an absolute sitter. Routledge was very similar, albeit at the top level, so good at getting into positions but couldn’t finish.

Wouldn’t get in any other championship team? He frequently gets in the Wales team.

Vipotnik just came off with the heavy fixture load in mind I would think. Particularly with Idah being potentially unavailable.

He is not a natural goalscorer he scores a decent goal occasionally and misses sitters occasionally and as for him not going anywhere if the club decides they do not want him or an half decent offer comes in for him then guess what, he will be going somewhere
