I think once Matos makes his mind up on a player it’s difficult to sway him back. The club though have a great talent on their hands and despite this a potentially big transfer fee. I’ve been told that the loan in the USA can be turned permanent if they buy out his contract. 🤷🏻♂️ Which tells me the next news on Monga may not be positive. Or maybe will be 😂

I hope this is not Matos’s stubbornness raising its head. It seems all managers have this sort of issue, the most prominent one for me was Toshack’s selection of Dai Davies over Dave Stewart. Clearly, Walta has something about him and maybe the issue is with him not Matos. We never get to know the reasons really.

| Leo Walta on 19:52 - Oct 3 with 1295 views | jack247 | All speculation but if Matos puts huge emphasis on team harmony and doesn’t let individuals get in the way of that, then so be it. He’s integrated a bunch of new players, they all run themselves into the ground and play like a well drilled unit. You can see how together they are after the games. If Walta, Monga, Galbraith, whoever else are casualties of that, I’ll live with it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
| Leo Walta on 21:44 - Oct 3 with 1199 views | Dr_Winston | It's a long season and we've only played eight games. The player in the role Walta would probably have filled hasn't stood out but we've got away with it so far. Things are going well at the moment so Matos has gained a certain trust. If we get into the hard days and the lack of a player like Walta becomes an issue then that trust might prove to have been misplaced. | |

Quite possibly. On the other hand, and I’m playing devils advocate, not for a minute saying it’s the case, if he’s another Whittaker/Obafemi type then getting him out on loan makes a lot of sense.

I don’t think he is, all we heard was he trains hard, lives well and was quite a popular player. He was pretty upset when the loan thing came up but he has taken it in his stride and gone with what Matos wants. The Swans need to reflect when he returns in January, for me they could be sitting on a lot more than some club taking over his contract. Millions more.

Without getting into the old debate about a goodly chunk of the Whittaker/Obafemi issues being at least in part down to the dickhead in charge at the time, good managers deal with problems. They don't palm them off. There's been no real hint that Walta is a "problem" player. The only thing that we know for certain is that for some reason despite being the manager when he was signed in the first place Matos has recently decided that he's not for him. Time will tell if that is the right call.

Nah, both those players came here with form and carried that form on to their subsequent clubs. Whittaker is probably PL level talent wise and he’s in the MLS. Obafemi was physically fat last time I saw him actually play. Both are mid twenties and should be in the prime of their careers. Bad apples are bad apples. But, if Keith is saying Walta is nothing like that, it’s good enough for me. Football wise, I don’t think our heavy pressing system, three up front system can accommodate a flair player who doesn’t do a lot defensively or off the ball, but I do agree with you we at least need that type of player in the squad when we’re trying to unlock teams like Wrexham and Sheffield United. We’ll undoubtedly face plenty of sides who just look to shut games down. Matos said something along the lines of ‘we signed Leo to play for Swansea, not to play every minute’. I agree with that but we need that type of player in the squad.

When quizzed on Walta's role, Vitor Matos said last week: "Leo is one player in the squad. All the players signed a contract to come to the club, not to play in the first XI. Leo is one of them.

Whittaker premier league talent but national league attitude.

One of the very few ex players I hope makes as little of his career as possible. Doesn’t look like I have to worry about Obafemi. Happily, Walta doesn’t seem to be that way inclined. If it’s purely a football decision, I agree with those who say it seems a strange one.
