| Cardiff Rugby on 23:21 - Jan 23 by EagleEye | The players don’t know whether they are staying or going. The region looks like being disbanded as soon as the WRU or Y11 can get rid. Games are played on Friday nights, Saturday nights & Sunday afternoons. Sometimes there is a month between games. First choice players only available when it suits the WRU. Based in Swansea, Neath, Bridgend. The whole organisation & league is a shambles. Weather tonight was appalling. Game was live on tv. I’m not surprised the crowd was poor. Swans only had 13000 on Tuesday, not many more than season ticket holders who get counted whether they turn up or not |
On your last point, I was in Gran Canaria this week and watched and enjoyed the Blackburn game over there. Yesterday, after getting back, I had received an E Mail off the club asking if there was any particular reason, as a season ticket holder, why I had not attended on Tuesday night and if it was because of any reason of dissatisfaction would I like to comment on how to improve things. So firstly, do they actually count non attending ST holders in their attendance figures and secondly is this something the Ospreys should be doing to existing, previous and potential ST holders to help improve gates

The official attendance figures always include season ticket holders whether they attend or not because they have bought a ticket for the game. To believe otherwise is to believe that the stadium was nearly 3/4 full against Blackburn, which, frankly, someone would have to be stupid or insane to suggest. There were at least five or six ST holders around me who weren't there.

I don't think locally people are celebrating the demise of the Ospreys if anything support is being galvanised by non rugby supporters. Personally I think if they are still in existence next season and returned to the stadium [it wasn't the current owners who removed them], there would be large protest attendances to stick two fingers up to the WRU. If that did happen what would be the odds on a new backer and the Ospreys swapping leagues with the English RFU Championship club who will be replacing them.

I feel it was an absolutely disgusting decision by the WRU. I also feel that all 4 regions should have stood together , instead of looking after themselves. Rugby in Wales is different to football. Rugby in a wales doesn’t get enough bums on seats at region level. Which is crazy really as for example, a few close friends played for Neath in the 80s. I would often go and watch, there would by about 7000-8000 proper supporters crammed in. Now, the Ospreys can hardly get 4000 in the ground. They rely heavily on the WRU funding them, about £7 million a year each, so have become lazy in respect of having to fund themselves. However, Cardiff basically went bust and the WRU bailed them out. Do the WRU think they will save money by having 3 regions ? They won’t. As for the Wales rugby team, it’s a joke. £100 and upwards for a ticket. The ordinary fan is priced out. All you get are the well off people, usually spotted in jeans, shirt, jacket, and brown shoes. True. Then the daffodil lot who haven’t a clue of any rules of rugby. Quite pathetic really. Nest season get back to the Liberty ( I am the first to moan when they cut the pitch up, but to survive they need to be there). Supporters need to turn up, show that the Ospreys are worth keeping, with 10,000 minimum crowds. Surely there is someone with dosh who would buy them and help fund them. Show the WRU that they are wrong.

Serious question Builthie, How would you feel about our owners taking them over. Go back to the stadium next season, put down a proper playing surface like Bristol to accommodate both sports. Let the WRU throw us out and take the place in the English league of the team replacing us.
