He retired in 2024 for 1 month before returning to his post, I suspect his pension is sorted so if he goes again it’s not like he’s losing anything.
From where I’m sitting his position is untenable and he has to go, but I think there’s a lot more we need to know to be able to get to the bottom of it. It may be that his underlings kept the AI bit from him, but how on earth did a police service produce a report based on AI which was factually incorrect? The Chief Constable has to carry the can, but there’s a few more people in the West Mids Police who have some pretty serious questions to answer.
One thing I really disagree with is that the Home Office are now looking at reintroducing powers to enable the Home Secretary to dismiss Guildford, whether she has confidence in him or not that should be a matter for the local Police and Crime Commissioner, we can’t have government politicians directly intervening like she proposes to. I don’t agree with PCC’s but it’s his job to oversee the delivery of the policing service in his area and not the Hone Secretary. | | | |

The Isreali are masters of lobbying and feed spin to willing media outlets.The headline that Ai was used is a beautiful example of their work. The headline sows the seed of British self hate. Birmingham police is run by apparent 12 year olds is the narrative .
Isreali lobby groups have implanted the narrative that Isrealis are always the victim and never the perpetrator of violence. Any one who contests this narrative can be labelled. " anti semantic".
Macabi Tel Aviv fans went to Amsterdam and triggered a riot by provoking the locals with deeply offensive chants. Dozens were hospitalised and numerous arrests. After that another Macabi Tel Aviv game was abandoned in Isreal.
There were a lot of red flags here. The appalling events in Gaza, the Macabi fans with a reputation for violence and provocation a Muslim populace in Birmingham. The Brum Police had to tread carefully but made the mistake of blaming the Isreali fans.
London lawyers did not accept Isrealis painted as perpetrators violence. Isrealis have over the decades presented them as victims. The Birmingham police did not follow the script and the Police top man has to go.

His salary is around £220k, I think the £15k per month is a little on the high side and I’d have thought it’s nearer £10k.
Some of the hard of thinking saying he should be stopped from accessing his pension, he retired a few years ago and came back in to policing so he has had access to his pension for years. There is no mechanism to stop him getting his pension.
Chris Philp, the shadow home secretary, added: “Craig Guildford should have been fired by the Labour police and crime commissioner – but he was too weak to act. Craig Guildford’s move to retire is simply not good enough.”
The only way Guildford could be sacked or required to resign is after a process which would take several months to run its course is initiated and that’s if they felt that was the right outcome.
My view is he had to go and this is the quickest way of resolving the situation. In terms of the CC, West Mids can move on, but there are still a lot of unanswered questions. The CC ultimately carries the can, but there are others under him who’d have a big part to play in this fiasco and they need need to be held to account. | | | |
