So when are the players back for pre-season training, is it the 30th June, if so the Director of Football has lot of decisions to make in two weeks.
Yeah I know offers on the table but we don't really need any of them apart from Jimmy, we want a stronger, fitter, quicker squad next season, offering contracts to players who are injury prone is surely not the way forward.
Then once they have gone it's all about the rebuild, we know that not all new players have to be signed for pre-season but it will help big time if they can actually get some decent training in with their new team mates before the season starts.

I have assumed that this “ongoing discussion” thing was simply his way of getting around the released list obligations from the league. Why we would be talking to Andersen or Fox about an extension is beyond me. Surely it’s a blessing that their contracts are up and we can move on? Ditto, given the salary involved, Colback.
Dunne is the one we want, but sounds like that ship has sailed.
Ideally you want your new signings in ready for pre-season not just to learn the system (need a head coach for that) but also to get settled off the pitch and bond with their colleagues.
I know football has moved on and squads are still being formed into August and the transfer deadline day, but I can’t think of any reasons you wouldn’t want new signings in the building for pre-season.
I thought he signed a new deal last year. Or did I imagine that?
He did. I'm not a financial expert, as the following is about to prove, but any chance we're moving players to a new wage structure similar to the supposed Colback/Cook deals where they earn more in subsequent years? Just to push the FFP stuff and make some mkre headroom this year? Otherwise I'm sure at least him and Walsh already had deals.

You didn’t imagine it. He did sign a big extension last summer, rumoured to be a 4 yr deal. Is this just us adding a year to keep him under contract for 4 more years? That would be my guess.

And that's the problem with this strategy on not telling us contract lengths - we have to guess.

I did say on another thread that we are seeing the comms start with DS and now moving to 1st team squad, building up the excitement. The article on Vale is included in that as in effect a new ( and good) signing.

I do hope we sign Koki Saito always gives 100% and plays with a smile on his face.
Can I play Devil's Advocate. Do we really need another diminutive winger? If we do, why not Emmerson Sutton, who's been with us for years and was courted (allegedly) by a number of PL clubs.
Signing Saito could well block Suton's progress. Sure, Koki has shown he can provide a threat going forward, without ignoring the defensive side of the game, like Dembele. And he plays with a smile on his face.
With limited resources is Saito the best use of our money? Or do we look to move on one of the others, Smyth, Chair, Dembele?

You make a good point. Like most others I have wanted Saito to return. However, as has been said, if he has an extra year clause on his contract, he'd cost us several £m. Also, with Chair, Kolli and Vale all able to play in Saito's position, arguably he isn't needed.
I'm not 100% convinced Sutton is ready for the Championship. A good 6 month loan out next season would be great for his development.
