Jonathan Varane contract extension on 09:16 - May 9 by Northernr | It's actually nice to see one of our signings progressing like this. At Sheff Utd and Blackburn A I was like 'wow, what have we bought here'. He's been inconsistent since then. I'm doing the end of term reports atm and at one point in the middle of the year his ratings go 6,7,3,4,6,7. At Leicester we said he was 'the only QPR player on the pitch who looked at the level of the opposition' and then at Portsmouth he was fcking awful. But you look at him at Oxford and Sunderland towards the end and you can see genuine progress, and also work being done on his faults. At the start he wouldn't turn around, now he's playing forwards more often. The market we shop in you're never going to be able to buy a finished article or a player without fault. So you have to take a chance on prospects like this and work on them. He's miles off finished but you can see travel in the right direction here, so that's a success story of sorts. |
One thing that helped him was coming in to play with experienced players, he had Field and Colback around him to get him through difficult moments with Cook behind him. He's got a lot better for it and you'd expect him to kick on again next season

Jonathan Varane contract extension on 10:00 - May 9 by 1JD | If you knew what a good ball carrying midfielder looks like, with good knowledge of the game and the championship specifically, Rothwell is in fact a good benchmark in terms of excellent stand out, noteworthy ability in that regard. Clearly, it is lost on you. Like Nourry. But it is also why I listed Rowlands to illustrate the point closer to home, as we’ve not had an effective ball carrying centre mid specifically in years- someone that can take the ball, dribble, beat players and drive with ball into the final third. |

I really don't want to see an announcement on an extension for Colback. What a disappointment he's been. I'd imagine he's at the higher end of the wages scale and he is unavailable to play a lot of the time. I agree a young side needs experience, but Champ players like him (and Fox) are ten a penny and we shouldn't be breaking our budget to keep hold of them, at the expense of exciting young talent

I think Varane will become this type player. Not sure he knows how good he is yet. Has all the attributes.

Varanes improvement means you could probably lose Colback this summer and get a cheaper replacement in

Jonathan Varane contract extension on 14:15 - May 9 with 3134 views | Quite_Possibly_Ropey | Would assume that the new deal added a year or two to current deal and maybe even the inclusion of a release fee. Varane is our next £15m+ sale in a year or so. He can be that good. It stuns me that there seems to be a good number of us who still can't see it with him. Given it was his first season in a new country/one of the toughest leagues, I think he did really well. That first year under his belt will really help him kick on next year.
Jonathan Varane contract extension on 14:25 - May 9 with 3075 views | vanrrrr | Good news… i thought against better opponents -(Like Leicester in that cup debacle or Burnley) he was the only one of our players looked to be able to play at that level. Hopefully he kicks on | | | | Login to get fewer ads
Jonathan Varane contract extension on 14:36 - May 9 with 3032 views | numptydumpty | Excellent news re Varane and I think he will progress further. Just needs to bring in a level of consistency as sometimes he can be brilliant and other games he can be mediocre. Am hopeful with regards to this player and also with football in the family sometimes this can be a predictor of improvements with some players also. Frey, I reckon isn't a new contract, just a trigger of one year additional playing time on his current contract. But am pleased he will still be here. He has at times been our most effective number nine of this season just gone. Smyth, I am fifty fifty over. I hope it's not four years, as I think he will start to deteriorate in a year or two. But I like him as a player even though his goals and assists are surprisingly low, as he quite often seems to have an impact and he is one of those players that doesn't shirk and plays to the best of his abilities. He, for me, is better as an impact sub also. So am content so far.

It will be hes getting used to the Champ. Tough league to drop anyone into, we saw that with Frey. It takes many players time to get into it. I cannot remember the game, but Saito had such a bad game early on, giving the ball away like Ashby does, that Marti hooked him at half-time. It happens.

Luton just got relegated, I bet Alfie Doughty is on less wages than Colback and Fox together. Probably available to play more often. In reality, I think Paal is gone as well, so we are short of a first choice LB next season

Jonathan Varane contract extension on 10:26 - May 10 with 2355 views | terryb | Personally, I'm delighted that Varane has signed a new contract & hope that it is an extension. I think that he already would be our most valuable player & the most wanted by other clubs. I gave up on reading the message from Nourry after the first sentance & treat his ramblings as I do all interviews with players/managers. Ignore them is the best option!

We'll forget the fact that he is on a long term contract and is worth £8m+.

Jonathan Varane contract extension on 00:06 - May 9 by GroveR | Let's put it this way. You love me. You've always loved me. Since we were little. But I know that, and in knowing that I know I can basically mug you off. "I've heard you like that handsome Spanish fella..." "He was checking out some brummie slùt. Fùck him. Give me your money" "But I don't know what you do with my money..." "Danish midfielders. Give me your money..." "Can we have a talk about..." "Fùck you, give me your money, and fùck you for asking." "OK, here, have more money" |
...and this just about sums it all up. Nothing we can do (or nothing that we are, collectively prepared to do), so no choice but to suck it all up. Yeah, we can whinge and may get the odd "victory" such as Injury updates, but whilst some think this is OUR club, other people actually own it and THEY are making the decisions for better or for worse. So, yeah, it's shite, bit where do I chuck my money?

I would hope that QPR are planning to use Harvey Vale in his more natural position of attacking midfielder as opposed to emergency left back.
