Sam Field Contract Extension on 17:00 - Jun 14 by kensalriser
Because that's where we are as a society. Hate is the in thing.
Well I hate and hated John Terry…..and a few other players over the years. Not QPR players though. I think it’s just the minority are d.ickheads and all of them are on social media and you always notice their comments than the rest of us. Not that I use twitter

Yeah totally bizarre. One of Warbs’ many sage lines sticks in my mind when it comes to Field - if he was 6’2, a progressive passer, quick, defensively solid, and scored 5-10 goals a season he wouldn’t be playing in the championship.
Genuinely find it hard to understand how people look at him and don’t see anything other than a good championship player.

This is a point a lot of us forget when we’re judging players like him, Dunne, Chair etc. yes, yes, I know, but if he could do that he’d be worth twice as much and playing for fcking Leeds.

2 of those players on long term deals. So, big tick for that from me. We need players like that in our squad. And Cook, Smyth and Frey too I’d say. I know we need quite a few signings, full backs being x2 or x3 of them but we do have some solid foundations to build for next season.

Long post warning. (Whatever happened to Ingham, eh?)
I know what you mean, but I'm not sure it is where we are.
This from Clive's season review of Smyth:
Nothing buries your Twitter in replies more than saying nice things about Paul Smyth but one thing we’ve got to be careful of, and have perhaps been a little bit guilty of through these end of term reports, is mistaking the loudest, most persistent voices as a consensus. There are a handful of prolific, aggressive posters who absolutely despise Smyth and can happily put dozens of Tweets out about him at a time, and there’s nothing Elon’s algorithm rewards more than angry boys piping a steady stream of rage bait into your phone. The discourse about him in the Crown & Sceptre, on the train, at the games, among the home and awayers, is very different. Even online, even on Twitter, when the Up The R’s account, which one would think attracts a different demographic to this website, put a poll up asking whether Smyth should stay or go next season the vote ran almost 9:1 in favour of him being kept at the point I voted in it. A lot of us are wired up to listen to the one horrible comment over the 100 nice ones.
The bit about the 9:1 vote on Twitter is pretty significant IMO. The stuff you read on Twitter or some other places doesn't reflect the typical human being or even the users of that platform. Twitter has for years used algorithms to multiply hate and fury because it makes them money. Musk has deliberately made it much worse.
There's a lot of it about elsewhere (I'm not going to get political here, you can make your own minds about that, and as this case shows it's not just about politics, it comes up in football, music fandoms, anywhere people have an opinion).
Human nature hasn't changed, there are and always have been dickheads out there. FWIW I'm probably with 1BobbyHazell, back in the day it wasn't just keyboard warrior tw*ts there was real violence at games.
Most people aren't dickheads, but sometimes it's the dickheads who have the megaphone.
Anyway, well done Sam Field on a deserved contract, excellent news all round.

Solid and dependable and always available. The best words to describe Sam Field.
The Dennis Irwin of the championship. Dennis never had a performance worse than a 7, occasionally an 8 or 9, but never less than a 7. Sam Field as a mid table championship player reflects these kind of stats. Occasionally he gets complaints, but his presence is such that when he doesn't play, the team dont quite gel, which to me shows his importance.
Agree he is no Eze and potentially in time No Varane with the upward trajectory he could be on, but he does a solid job, wherever he is asked to perform. Very decent first team player and squad member. Always room for a Samuel Field in a Queens Park Rangers first team squad.

I've still got my Twitter account. But, nowadays I only use it for QPR team news and stuff from DS and Academy.
I find it puzzling why anybody with any conscience would use it any more than that.

I get the sentiment, Numpty, but I think you might be doing down Dennis Irwin, an unreal athlete who excelled at Gaelic Football, Hurling and Soccer, and who was the best full-back in the history of his Country and maybe of his Club.

I love Field, and I'm delighted he's ours, but there's a lot better players than Field in the Championship - there wasn't many better in Division 1 than Irwin in his time.

Always come across as a very good guy. Hope he can play a little more advanced this coming season as he definitely seems to be comfortable further up the pitch. That said the new manager will probably play him in goal so what do I know.
